Is the COVID extension pretty much a sure thing for anyone who wants it?

I saw you need a letter from your embassy saying that you can't return? But I'm pretty sure I *could* return (to the USA)... So, will I be able to get the COVID extension?

So far, I entered with a 45-day visa exemption, then got a 30-day extension. Just wondering if I'll be able to add 60 more to this.

Thank you!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The COVID visa extension is generally available to those who apply, but requirements can vary by immigration office. While a letter from your embassy is typically needed to confirm inability to return home, some offices accept alternative documents, such as printed information from the embassy's website stating they do not issue such letters. If you can return home but still wish to apply for the extension, you may be required to provide an explanation for your stay.

Some immigration offices ask for one of the following:

A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR;

a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR;

a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

(note the ORs).

For American Citizens, the immigration office accept the print out of a website saying they don't issue the letters. See attached.

Yes, but expect to be asked why you want to stay.

Awesome, thank you for your help! Just one follow-up question. You said: "expect to be asked why you want to stay." Is it acceptable to say the real answer like "I want to see more of Thailand"? Or should I say something about difficulties with travel? Or does it not really matter?

Depends on immigration office. But most don't ask for letter.
