What is the process for applying for a COVID extension after arriving in Thailand visa exempt?

I have a question about COVID extensions after arriving visa exempt. I've already received a 30-day extension (from MTT), which is about to run out. My understanding is that I can now apply for a COVID extension at MTT (they told me as much when I extended) and that I should make an appointment a few days before my current extension expires. I assume it's all the same paperwork as the 30-day extension (copies of passport pages, TM7, entry slip, photo, 1900 Baht), plus perhaps the TM30 from my hotel to be safe. I gather that I would probably be given a temporary extension and asked to come back in one week. My question is (a) what sort of proof is needed that COVID is keeping me here (if any) and (b) whether there are any data points regarding whether COVID extensions are or are not being approved for visa exempt. I was thinking to just say that COVID is raging at my home and I don't feel safe returning.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about applying for a COVID extension in Thailand after receiving an initial 30-day extension on a visa-exempt arrival. They plan to apply for the COVID extension at MTT and ask for clarification on the paperwork required, proof of ongoing COVID-related issues, and the likelihood of approval for visa-exempt visitors. Comments suggest that the necessary documents typically include passport copies, the TM7 form, and possibly TM30 from their hotel, and offer advice on the type of proof (if any) that may be needed to substantiate their claim.

Thanks :) I made an online appointment. The only option for Counter K at MTT was "apply for short-term visa" so I took it. I'm assuming that's just the usual gov't sloppiness and nothing to worry about.

If you entered on a visa exempt entry

just put COVID-19, if they want more than that they will tell you to explain further. Same forms but last time they asked me for all my extension stamps. For the most part all the immigrations officers have been pretty nice.

The list you have is correct. *IF* they ask for a proof, they would want a letter from your embassy saying you can not return, or a letter from the embassy saying they don’t issue the letters, or a screenshot from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters (which is what the US embassy website says).

I never heard of anyone being rejected for a COVID-19 extension.
