Went into 'Chumphon' immigration last Wednesday (18) only to be told I needed a flight cancellation email to get the covid extension. I got my last extension here with an embassy letter from Canada (but there not issuing those anymore). Has anyone else had similar experiences? I was going to try again this week and if that doesn't work, try a different office. Anyone have luck in Surathani ? Also the hostel/hotel I stay at will they register me with immigration? even if it's just for one night. Thank you for your replies

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user visited Chumphon immigration to apply for a COVID extension and was informed they needed a flight cancellation email, despite having previously received an extension with a letter from the Canadian embassy, which is no longer being issued. They are seeking others' experiences, especially regarding the Surathani immigration office, and inquiring if their hostel/hotel will register them with immigration for a short stay.

Ok this may be a stupid question but why not give them a copy of flight cancellation? Or if you do actually have a flight that’s going they are correct and you don’t qualify for that extension.

It's not the smartest question considering 99.9% of tourist still in Thailand want to stay here and don't want to go home, what your suggesting is the only way to stay as a tourist, is to try to go home and fail. That's why most offices don't ask for flight information, some are still going but who really wants to take chances now. What if my flight was for Nov.30 and gets cancelled, then what? My city is back into lockdown and going back now isn't really a viable option. Thanks for your response anyway 🙏🏼

it's not a stupid question. The affidavit form is a statement that you can't leave Thailand, not that you don't want to leave.

no it is the obvious question as you just answered it and why immigration saw through your request. You are choosing to stay not that you can’t return home. You may

be able to get a visa appropriate to a desire to stay but it’s not a covid visa as you aren’t stuck in thailand.

They issue extension if you self declared why you want to stay. No other documents required.
