Heads up .

Just came back from cheangwattana immigration in getting my second covid extension and they are getting strict . They ask me why I'm asking for this covid extension and I told them flight was cancelled in October and next one available at the time was January .

I had to prove all this by the way ..Also asked how much i paid for my ticket back to Sydney . So be prepared.

P.s......Got my extension ......👍👍

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent experiences at Cheangwattana Immigration indicate heightened scrutiny for COVID extensions. One user reported they needed to justify their extension request due to canceled flights and provide proof. Others shared various personal accounts of the extension process, including efficiency and challenges faced. There's also discussion about the evolving situation with flights returning to Sydney and the implications for expats in Thailand. Overall, the community notes stricter enforcement of immigration rules related to COVID extensions.

Does the maximum 3 days in advance (before end of your visa date) rule still apllies?
Mma *******
I went 1 day before expiration (which gave me one extra day to work with if something went wrong). For me it was processed the same day so it was OK to go towards the end of my visa expiration.

what 3days rule. I've always went between 7 to 14 days before my visa expires

I can totally understand that, if you have been here for the last 22 months on COVID extensions, now things are opening up, time to return home.
Christine *******
@Rob *********
why is it time to return home?
McGregor **********
There is no reason to have covid extensions now, no country prohibits you returning to your own country
Tony ******
Lisa Kühn cost and restrictions all reduced it's now about 3000 aud return but depends on length of visa me I need 200 days of insurance that's 1000 this is what I think it will cost me to go to Melbourne Australia for Xmas and come back

Ok, interesting update. I went on the 2nd November to CheangWattana- my first covid ext and went smooth. +60 days. I arrived 9am and went straight to a desk officer, no waiting. For those that are interested: BTS one shot to Wat Pra Sri Mahathat bts then Grab/motorbike taxi 80bht to Division 1 building B immigration. Photocopying and photo's available downstairs, and shops open. Also glue for you photo available upstairs.

Thai currently doing 2 flights per week into Sydney increasing to 4 or 5 per week soon .Qantas starts January. For fully vaccinated people the situation is getting better than it was a few short weeks ago

I don't reckon Qantas will restart all flights then, there are too many restrictions and hoops to jump through. Normal tourists aren't going to bother going to Thailand until testing and quarantine requirements are relaxed.

not true

just because Qantas are selling tickets doesn't mean they will actually fly. If not enough book they'll just start cancelling flights.

If it wasn't for my partner being in Thailand, I wouldn't be travelling there now. The PCR tests and quarantine add a lot of cost and if you test positive in Thailand you are stuffed.

plenty of bookings to various destinations. First A380 returned on Tuesday to prepare for service. It will be a gradual process because there is a lot to do to make aircraft and staff ready for service. Thai have had 2 flights into Sydney this week carrying passengers and taking to BKK .The Thai Consulate was flat out when I was there this week and staff say they have been hammered and that is walk ins .Many others choose to use post .Those going Visa Free don't need any contact with Embassy. My Thai flight from Sydney to Bangkok in December was roughly half full a few weeks ago when I made booking.

just because Qantas offers a flight for booking doesn't mean they'll fly it. They've been notorious for that since the start of COVID, until they start reliably flying routes I wouldn't be flying on them.

When people have been blocked from seeing family or partners for almost 2 years, a few booked out planes is going to be normal early on as people with a connection to Thailand travel. However, like I said, there are too many hurdles still for tourists.

Ryan MC. No one has been "blocked". Thailand was like many other countries and had mandatory quarantine, but the country has been open since July 2020, unlike all of its neighbours, many of whom are still closed

yes that's right hence all the question from IO

been here Since July this year .

Tony Cabello. I didn't think you were a 'lingerer' from the pre-covid days. I got a second-hand story the other day, a neighbour of mine was telling me his friend who's been here since January 2020 was knocked back for another covid extension last week. I think he said it would have been his sixth. Apparently, he's had to book a flight back to the UK, produced the ticket to immigration and they're giving him an extension up to the date of the flight. But he's been here continuously, I didn't think they'd give a hard time to someone who's only a recent arrival
Tony *********

@Bobby *******
What do you mean .?

They didnt give me a hard time so to speak . They just asked why I wanted to stay as they obviously knew Sydney had opened up with no quarantine and their are plenty of flights now landing in Sydney if your vaccinated...
Bobby ********
Tony Cabello. That's what I mean. In the past apparently they just gave it without question, but there's been several reports in other groups of people being questioned as to when they're leaving, but I'd assumed they were those who'd been here almost two years

@Bobby *******
oh ok .

I didnt interpret your comment properly .My bad
Phill ******

Phill ******
@Tony ********

@Phill *****
but I didnt get a flexible ticket and didnt realise i also got a non refundable ticket so I'm stuck with this flight now . That's pretty much what I had to describe to IO

@Phill *****
but now if your vaccinated you can get back to Sydney for under

baht with Singapore/ Scoot.

so there you go , you can leave Thailand, so book the flight and go, or get the appropriate visa to stay here long term.
