TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about recent experiences with obtaining a COVID extension in Chiang Mai, mentioning concerns over increasing denial rates. Comments indicate some individuals have received their extensions, though there may be complications, such as the need for an embassy letter for those not eligible under certain visa types.

You only need a letter from the embassy if you're not eligible for the covid extension (like being on a non immigrant visa).
