What documents and steps are needed for a one-year extension of stay in Thailand on a retirement visa?

Hi one and all.

I'm on a 90 day O Visa based on retirement and next Friday (16th) I will be applying for a one year extension (first time). My current visa expires on February 26th.

Yesterday I went to the Bangkok Bank (the bank where my account is held) near Udon Thani immigration and asked for an account statement. They asked for my passport and I hadn't brought it with me. My brain was in UK mode and I didn't even consider taking it. I opened my account two months ago and the bank clerk said she could print me a statement when I bring in my passport. That wasn't possible yesterday and so I'm planning to return on Monday.

I'd like to ask if a printed statement from the bank, rather than one from Bangkok Bank's head office, will be acceptable to immigration..

A few other questions if I may.

Can photocopies (e.g. Passport) be in black and white?

Where do I place my signature on the photocopies, top or bottom?

On the day I apply for the one year statement I know I need to update my bank book and get a letter from the bank. Can I ask for the letter on the day of my application or do I need to order it beforehand? Also, what type of letter do I ask for?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeking to apply for a one-year extension of their retirement O Visa in Thailand has several questions regarding the required documents and procedures. They need a bank statement from Bangkok Bank, updated bank book, a letter from the bank, and photocopies of their passport. The community provides guidance on the acceptability of black and white photocopies, requirements for signatures, and the necessity of having the bank letter and statements dated the day of application. Additionally, several users share personal experiences and advise checking specific requirements with the local immigration office to avoid confusion.

Bank statement dated day of application brings back memories. In Pattaya completing the process yourself instead of via an agent doesn't get you in immigration's good books. In my case the process was delayed by officers as they sent me back and forth, blatant delaying tactics aimed to annoy (eg map showing place of residence had to be hand drawn, not printed from an actual to scale online map, photos with daughter had to be provided in front of school, outside and inside residence etc etc)... then on day 3 of the process, my fourth time in front of the immigration officers, absolutely everything they had requested complied with, just as immigration was about to close for the day, they announced that my Bangkok Bank statements provided three days before were now out of date.

Looking forward to a visit in June/July

You best get a list of requirements from "your" immigration before you apply. . . . . . . . . The “bank letter of guarantee” should be from the same day, for most immigrations. Just visit the bank in the early morning.

The "letter of guarantee" is called "rab roong thanakan" in Thai, it should prove 2 months seasoning (song duean) of a minimum of 800,000.- THB for your application to a 1-year extension of stay permit based on retirement. Immigration in Thai is called “Tor Mor”

Myself I let the bank prove THREE months of seasoning, just to feel safe in case a new immigration officer might not be aware of the two-months rule

When leaving the bank, draw a small amount from their ATM and keep the receipt.

NOTE A: sign all black and white copies in BLUE ink!

NOTE B: Immigration might check that you are TM30 registered at your place of accommodation

Since you are using the deposit method for the financial proof, you need to remind yourself:

After being issued the 1-year Extension of Stay Permit, a minimum of 800,000.- THB must remain on the account for three months. After the three months, the amount shall never go under 400,000.- THB.

For the renewal of the yearly Extension of Stay, the money must again be over a minimum of 800,000.- THB two months before the next application

I have the list of requirements for Udon Thani immigration and it states a tm.7 (see photo) and not a tm.47 as Nick Cartwright commented. Which is correct?

NOTE: if you arrived by air, you won't have a TM6 departure card.

I stand corrected. All these firms and numbers get my head in a right soon. Anyway it is 90 day report and residence registered.

Check with the relevant immigration and they will tell you what is needed.

You need two letters from your bank, one stating the account is yours, and the other a deposit and balance statement for the last three months, or as needed to show your deposit date. These letters can not be older than 7 days. You also need a copy of your bankbook, and make a deposit, or withdrawal so it would show the balance on the day you apply, as the account doesn't update unless there is a transaction.

Get used to it. Due diligence on their part. My bank is the same and I have been with them for 20+ yrs

Bangkok Bank branches can print out 6 months statement so you will be fine as it's your first extension. But bear in mind next year you will need to order the statement a week in advance as it has to come from head office

la lettre de la banque avec le solde est valable 7 jours. Le bankbook lui doit être update avec un retrait ou un dépôt le même jour ou tu vas à l’immigration.

Your bank statements and verification letter from the bank need to be dated the day of your application. A copy of your bank book showing a transaction on the day of application is also required. At least that is the case at my office. Also copy of tm30 and tm47. I would advise you to ask your office for a list of requirements and ask the Offucer to write down what they need from the bank in Thai to avoid confusion and multiple visits back and forth. Sign everything in blue ink at the bottom. A map showing where you live is another requirement and for me a Google maps print out was acceptable. Take copies of everything relevant just in case. They should provide the application form and declaration (tm2) I think but you can download them and fill them in before you go to speed things up. Dont forget two recent passport photos. Good luck.

The Banks know exactly what type of statement/letter you need for retirement extension. Best is to have it done the same day before going to immigration, don‘t forget to make a transaction before asking for statement

Photocopies in black and white are fine. Fill in all forms and do all signatures in blue ink. Sign at the bottom of page for copies.
