Morning. In Bangkok. Will go for extension of stay for non immigrant o visa based on expat child studying here. Question concerns bank book update and bank letter. Do they have to be dated the day of the extension or the day before is ok. The 500k is on the account for over a month (it’s my first extension). Reason for asking is that if I have to do it on the day then can’t go there early and finish early... Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an extension of stay for a Non-Immigrant O visa in Thailand based on having an expat child studying there, it’s important to know the requirements for bank documentation. Generally, the bank letter can be dated the day before the extension application, while the bank book update or transaction records must be dated the day of the extension application. It's advisable to obtain a bank letter and a printout of transactions that include the necessary date stamp from the bank on the day of filing to avoid any issues.

I/O 's know that City Bank doesn't have a bank book BUT you need to have the print out of the previous transactions from the bank WITH the date stamp from the bank on the day you apply.

I went to immigrations with someone who banks at City Bank earlier this year. We had the bank letter (which as David correctly pointed out can be up to a week old). We also had a print out of the previous 3 months of transactions on the account (the paperwork City Bank gives you because they don't use a bank books) BUT it was dated the day before and the officer made us go back to the bank and get a new print out of the transactions with the date we were applying for the extension on it.

SO I would say; GO to the bank, get the bank letter, the transaction record printed, dated & stamped by the bank THEN go to the immigration office for the extension.

prachinburi io does not recognize Citibank as an eligible bank.

Instructed me to get a certificate from French embassy in bkk (did not understand what kind) and transfer my 800 k to a “real bank” after opening an account (based on a 30 day visa exempt?? Wtf).

I am tired.

Will try in CW tomorrow.

On the proof of fund, Citibank is familiar with the process and issues letter, statements (all stamped and signed) in a matter of minutes.

awesome :-) I will do it in Prachinburi which makes it impossible to get everything on the same day. I will see how it goes (They are quite flexible and understanding over there)

... the way I understand it is that the bank letter can be from the day before (if that's when you're getting it).. the bank book update is the day of the extension... which can be done in the basement of chanwattana via the ATM assuming your account is one of the supported banks in the complex.

Ron Angel They have two branches that accept retail deposits in Thailand. One at corner of Asoke and Sukhumvit and one on Silom. Currently minimum to open a new savings account is 1 million baht.

ok. I never knew they were Thailand based.

Ron Angel Yes. Asoke. They only have 1 branch. I opened an account there 12 years ago as I was living outside of Thailand and was tired of running into trouble every time I wanted to transfer money from another bank to pay for my credit card expenses (that was 12 years ago...)

Alexandre Werkoff you say you have a citibank savings account with 800,000 baht in it. Is that bank in Thailand? 🤔

Ah yes sorry. Got a detailled answer from

a month ago: I can get a 90 day non-O issued in Bkk, then apply for the yearly extension as the money is here since July.
Robert *******
you can not apply for a 1 year Extension if you only have a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry. You first need the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years
Alexandre *********
Robert Lagas no, I came with a 30 days exemption as recommended by the consulate (and here). The rest is correct

You have an SETV and want to apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age?
Alexandre *********
Am starting to worry as my 800 k are on a Citibank savings account. They don't use bank books. I hope a letter/certificate/stamped statement will be enough
