Has anyone gone this route for a marriage visa? Would love to know what the steps are as we called a visa agency and they said we HAVE to have a Bank Acct or the income has to come from a Thai employer or you are self employed and your business is here in Thailand - which doesn't make sense why you would get an affadavit from your embassy.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a marriage visa in Thailand, applicants must meet specific requirements including financial proof: either maintaining 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to application or having a verified monthly income of 40,000 THB. Some embassies provide affidavits to meet income criteria, but if one is available, the monthly income option cannot be utilized. The application requires attention to detail in document preparation, including marriage certificates, bank statements, and personal photographs. Each immigration office may have slightly different requirements, so it's essential to confirm the specific needs directly with them.

We opened up at Krungsri at Iconsiam no problem just needed a passport and rent agreement (min 1 year). This was on our second day of trying - first day, no luck at kbank which said we needed a work permit (we are here to visit family). SBC wanted us to translate our US marriage certificate and go to the district office and get a stamp to legalize/certify the certificate. Off to get our 2 month extension next week then we’ll go back for the marriage visa. Will move 500k into the account just to be safe.

2 months of 400k thb in account prior to applying. Well Samut Prakan immigration requires 3 months

So we are only here until mid-November (when our lease is up on a condo we are renting). My husband is currently on a 60 day extension which we'll have to renew next week - should we just keep doing it for the next 6 months assuming they will keep extending the 60 day extension because of the covid situation? Or should we do the marriage visa even if we'll only need it for the next 6 months.

My opinion: keep milking the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. IF the immigration office says no, then apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family (I'm assuming you're Thai, he's a foreigner).

No, you can use the affidavit for people with income as well.

My experience was in Petchabun Province. On the wall of the immigration office is a road map of all the documents needed to complete the process. Agree with prior comments that paying attention to the details is important (e.g. collared shirt for the picture, sufficient details to show place of residence, etc.). Patience, asking questions and knowing it may take a few submissions to get it right may be the right mind set.

Yep. I am in another province now but last year my extension was done in Bangkok and they did not like that in the photo with the house number it was hard to read the number. I had to go to the copy center downstairs and have them print the photo enlarged so the number was easier to read. Good thing I had the photos on my phone.

You also need pictures of the two of you in front of your house and a few inside the house. No need to use agency, you can perfectly well do it yourself. I got the one year extension last month. Each immigration office is slightly different. In Udon they did not bother about aging of the money and all they needed was a letter from the bank that there was 400 000 bht on my account on the day I requested the extension.

thank you!

1. That's an agency website, NOT the official government website.

2. You need EITHER:

400K THB in a Thai bank account, seasoned for two months OR:

40K THB in monthly income OR [from certain countries];

A letter from your embassy saying you make 40K THB a month

IF your embassy offers the letter, you CAN NOT use the monthly income method.

@Benjamin *****
monthly income must almost the same day every month also but cannot miss a month.

for mine I just show my income tax which a proof that I have more than 40k per month from my country with the letter from my embassy. I don’t need show I transfer 40k to my Thai bank..

Hi everyone. A related question. Does the 400,000 have to be transferred into my Thai account from outside of Thailand? Or can it come from another account within Thai

@Rob *****
doesn't matter where the money comes from if savings. Must be there minimum 60 (but possibly 90) depending on which immigration. I trued to make this method inside the country last year but had more than enough money coming from outside but nit same date. They told me if 400,000 for 60 days they would give me. Much easier outside the country in Savanahkhett

If you work in Thailand and are getting 40,000 baht a month, this will suffice meeting the financial criteria. If you're from US, UK or Australia the embassy won't give you an affidavit, you actually have to transfer 40k per month into your Thai bank account. The third option is 400,000k in the bank at least two months before application. An agent will rip you off doing something which you can do yourself.
Canice ******
You need get the affidavit stamp from your embassy in order to use the 40k per month. If your embassy able to provide you one.

Be aware that the screenshot is from a commercial website, not from Thai Immigration.

And for using an agency, well, they're not interested in you using an affadvit from your embassy.
Henrik ****
There are basically two steps in this: 1) You MUST prove you have the required money/income, 2) You MUST comply down to the tiniest detail with the list of required documents...

Yes, its part of their requirements if your applying Marriage VISA here.

Yes thats normal you need

0 baht in Bank account for two months before application. Not sure of other options only ever done the bank account thing.

Easy enough to do dont waste money on an agent.

@Michael *******
it needs to be in the bank for 2 months when you get the 1 year extension. If you are applying for the first 3 month non-o visa then it just has to be in the bank. Whether or not the money needs to be seasoned depends on if the op needs to get the non-o first, which is required, or if he already has one and is applying for the 1 year extension.
Michael ********
@Wylie ******
yes not sure of that as in normal times non O is applied outside of the country. Hopefully someone can confirm

I just went through all of this in Chaing Mai. I entered in the end of December on a tourist visa. I had to change my visa to a non-o based on marriage less than 2 months ago. For that the 400k just needed to be in a bank in my name only. I'm working on getting the paperwork now to apply for the 1 year extension.

Of course with anything related to thai visas it is always best to go to immigration to get the list and ask/confirm these types of questions.

ok thanks for the clarification.
