Hello,

I have a question about qualifying for the marriage visa. The income requirement. Is it 400,000 in the bank or 40,000 a month? Is it one or the other?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The income requirement for the marriage visa in Thailand can be fulfilled in one of two ways: having 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account or demonstrating monthly income of 40,000 baht over a 12-month period. There is also a possibility to combine these two options, such as having a deposit of 200,000 baht and a monthly transfer of 20,000 baht. These funds must be transferred regularly, and it's crucial that transfers are completed before the end of each month to maintain compliance with immigration requirements.

Can you clarify a point relating to the ฿40,000 per month option?

I'm assuming this is worked by calendar months. E.g., one can import funds on 1st November and the next month on 31st December?

There's no need for 30-day intervals?

@Trevor ******
you need 12 months of international transfers of 40K baht a month in to your thai bank account on the date you APPLY for your extension,

Doesn't matter when the transfers hit but if you're fooling with bringing them in at the end of the month you make real sure it gets IN before the month rolls over. 😕

Had a guy doing it the last couple of days each month, one month the transfer hung in the system didn't credit until the next month (when he had TWO 40K baht incoming transfers) he was denied his extension because he failed to meet the terms 🙁

Thanks, mate...

no but I wouldn't be so extreme. If for some reason your 31 December transfer got delayed and slipped to 1st January you've broken your monthly transfer history and would have to start over

Thank you all for your help. 400,000 is a lot for me to save. I have been working for a Korean company from the start of the virus and I think the 40,000 a month should be no problem to prove.

Thanks again for all your help...

are you officially working in Thailand? If so you can also use income of 40k as proof.

Read somewhere it can also be a combination of the 2, something like 200k deposit and 20k/month. Which makes sense because if I don't use all the money from the monthly transfers, I'd take back the unused part and use it to provide monthly income for the following months

@Daniele **********
that is 100% totally incorrect information. there is no combination method available for the proof of funds on marriage visas/extensions,

You either bank all the 400K baht for the 2 months before you apply for the year extension OR you transfer from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only for 40K baht a month, each month, every month for the previous 12 months

what if I don't stay in Thailand for 6 months? I'd have 240k on my account, am I allowed to take that back outside Thailand? And use it as income for the next 6 months?

@Daniele **********
once you get your extension issued based on marriage you're free to do what ever you wanted with the funds

I'm taking about the 40k/month method, if I send 40k/month for 6 months and don't use it I'll have 240k after 6 months, can I take that back abroad and use it for next 6 monthly transfers?

@Daniele **********
we're going around in circles. There is no obligation for you to keep the 40K baht you tranfer in to the thai bank account in the account even a single day AFTER the transfer hits your bank account here,

You wanna pull it out of that account, send it back to your country and then transfer it in again next month do it.

The requirement is 40K baht a month each month every month for the previous 12 months transferred from abroad IN to your thai bank account.

There's nothing written about what you do after you get it here 🙂

I'm currently not in Thailand, can I start now sending and taking back 40k every month? And 12 months later get an extensions using just this transfers as proof of funds? Are you 100% sure this will work? Looks like a better option than 400k locked for 2-3 months or whatever it is
Daniele ***********
@Tod ********
ok so it can be the same 40k in and out every month, thanks that's what I wanted to know

John is correct. I originally was thinking I could get an embassy letter from USA embassy to verify my income. However they stopped that a few years ago. Now it’s 400k or 12 months of deposits into a Thai bank.
John **********
It's one or the other. But before you can use the 40k per month option you must have a full 12 months of transfers of a minimum of 40k per month
