TLDR : Answer Summary
To satisfy the requirements for a marriage visa in Thailand, you must demonstrate a monthly income of 40,000 THB or maintain a deposit of 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account. New applicants need to show the deposit, but those extending a marriage visa may need to prove a regular monthly transfer for 12 months. There can be variations depending on the immigration office, and discussions with local immigration are advisable to avoid issues.

Who wants to marry someone who doesn’t even have 400k lol
Charlie ******
@Tony ****
what doesn't say that you can do that together?
Tony *****
@Charlie *****
yes it’s called love. Save until you have money. Marriage does have a significance but all it is is just writing on a paper. Wait til your well established instead of rushing into marriage for love
Charlie ******
@Tony ****
Well it is called love. It's rare but can be found in Thailand too if you don't run around paying everyone for love.

Most marriages happen in early twenties, basically no one if it's not given to you have a fortune (not saying 400k is a fortune but most people just started working) by then if you're not a self-made billionaire like Mark.

But if you're older and want to pay for love, then it's just bad if you not have 400k thb in savings. Means you're bad at saving money.

+ 1 million for inlaws, lol

400k per year or 40k per month

@Steve ******
thank you the OP was incorrect

What immigration expects and what your wife will expect are vastly different numbers. Prepare for some pain

40K is easily done OUTSIDE of Sukhumvit. When I first arrived in 2004 my salary was 32k

If you're applying for a marriage visa inside Thailand you need 400k baht in a Thai bank. For the first extension you need 400k baht in a Thai bank 2 months before applying for the extension. For subsequent extensions you need to transfer 40k baht from overseas each and every month for 12 months before you apply for the extension, or just continue to use the 400k method
Colin **********
@John *********
if your working in Thailand you show that your local income is over 40kthb
Colin **********
Some offices are not keen on the income method for thai spouse, it's worth checking where you will be staying.

@Colin *********
, some years ago I was told that I should both have 400k on account plus 40k going into my account every month. I told her that this was like double. Then she started arguing about how I could stay in Thailand if not getting new money into the account every month? Then I told her politely that I comply with the requirement of 400k on the account and this should be sufficient for getting my extension. Then another officer told her that I was right πŸ™‚
Colin **********
@Henrik ***
yes the lady boss talked to BKK a few times, so you might be right.
Henrik ****
@Colin *********
, the money on the Thai bank account every month for 12 months? I am pretty sure that they list this option on the list of requirements in Prachin Buri. But Prachin Immigration is surely strange sometimes. I think they are still under some kind of guidance from Bangkok having officers staying only for a while at the office making up their own rules...
Colin **********
BTW the boss has changed since then. So it might be different now.
Colin **********
@Henrik ***
prachinburi about 4 years ago, they refused this method

@Colin *********
, which Immigration in Thailand are not keen on the income method? As far as I have heard the problems come if you want to combine income and deposit or doing the proof of income from your Embassy method.

Thanks. Probably not clear from my OP. I've lived here for 16 years so not coming into the country as such. I've the 400k in my account amd used that way last marriage visa I got. Was going to change and bring money in every month so it seems 40k is the minimum I will need. Thank you
Henrik ****
40,000 THB per month or 400,000 THB on account.
Thomas *********
First year, you need to deposit 400,000THB as soon as you get here. Then you only need to transfer 40,000 THB per month from as soon as you get here. This is small money. I really don't know any Farang that can survive on 40k. You need to apply for a Non-O Visa before coming to Thailand. A very easy process which you can do with the help of your wife.

I bring over a minimum of 100,000k per month and live very well on that. I'm 63 and my health insurance 132USD per month for 400,000USD coverage.

Here's the Official Royal Thai Embassy Portal where you can apply in most civilized countries.

yes sorry was meant toward the OP

@Jo *********
wrong? Thomas said people cannot live on 40k baht a month. I said they can. I didn't say anything about b the financial requirement. for the visa
Jo **********
@Steve ******
yes you are right but the OP says you need both
Steve *******
@Jo *********
It's one or the other not both
Steve *******
@Frank *********
You can do more than survive on 40k per month, it all depends on your lifestyle, you'll need a tad more with a wife and kids
Jo **********
@Frank *********
you are wrong it’s 400,000 Baht in your account for 2 months or the option of 40,000 a month.
Jo **********
@Thomas ********
you are wrong it’s 400,000 Baht in your account for 2 months or the option of 40,000 a month.

@Thomas ********
My friend received a Marriage visa by having a 400,000 baht for two months. He was never asked to put 40,000 baht per months.
Frank **********
@Thomas ********
you can survive on 40k baht a month if you live a simple life especially if your wife already owns her house and you only need to pay for electric and water.
Henrik ****
@Thomas ********
, you can also get the initial Non-O on marriage at Immigration in Thailand. But it might be easier getting it at the Embassy in your home country as they will accept a tax report as proof of the 40k THB Net per month. In both cases, using the deposit method will take the 400k THB on account for 3 months in your home country and 2 months at Immigration.

I'm one year short or yourself and pay approx $123 for 100k coverage. I've a feeling it's the same company so I'll ask to upgrade. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions
