TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand, you need to apply from your home country or specific locations like Perth, Australia, which does not have a residency requirement. The requirements generally include two passport-sized photos, a bank statement showing a minimum balance (often around 20,000 THB), and a completed application form. Each Thai consulate may have slightly different rules, so it's best to check the website of your local Thai embassy for the most accurate and specific information.

, you are confusing two completely different things.

BEFORE 2015 you could apply for double and even triple entry tourist visas at the various thai consulates.

BUT

On Friday 13 November 2015 they started offering tourist visas only two ways a single entry and a 6 month METV <-multi-entry tourist visa. That was also the time that most consulates (especially ALL of the consulates in S/E Asia) put a residency requirement on the 6 month METV meaning you had to legally reside in the country you were applying for the METV in.

The Thai consulates in Australia are the ONLY consulates nearby that do not have the residency requirement. Other than them you would need to go back to the country your passport comes from to get a 6 month METV.

I guess you applied years ago for the double or triple entry tourist visa, this visa does not exist anymore and is replaced with the 6 months valid Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. You can apply for this visa in your country of residence or as far as we know Perth Australia, as the only consulate without the residence requirement.

My French not that good, but you can find it all on this web page:

Julien Peltier you'll need to go to Perth, Australia or France to get a METV if you carry a French passport, as Robert Lagas explained above

I remember applying for multiple entry tourist visa years ago! In Cambodia and Lao :) After 15 years here, I've experienced ALL visa types! I am currently in Thailand, I just need the requirements; 2 photos, 20k in bank, METV application form, a picture of my cousin's dog? etc. :D

Metv are only like a year old, they didn't exist 10 years ago. Check your country's Thai embassy website.
