What Should I Know About Crossing from Laos to Thailand with a METV Visa?

Hi.

I currently have a METV visa that expires in March. UK passport holder.

I have two questions which I hope you will be able to help me with.....

1. Currently in Laos. I will be coming back into Thailand at the Vientiane/Nong Khai crossing. Is there anything I should know about this crossing or should I just have cash, proof of onward travel and accommodation?

2. I will be on Samui when it expires so I want to fly out of Samui and back into Samui the same day (just before the visa expires) Is this going to cause any problem or again should I just have cash, proof of onward travel and accommodation?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user holds a METV visa expiring in March and has questions regarding re-entry into Thailand from Laos and flying out from Samui on the same day. Comments from the community suggest that crossing at Nong Khai is generally straightforward without the need for proof of funds, onward travel, or accommodation. However, there are concerns about flying in and out of Samui on the same day, as it may raise questions regarding the use of the visa and could pose risks compared to land transportation.

Now perhaps flying out and back from Samui might NOT be the wisest course of action after being here on a 6 month METV, (which if you used it correctly you'd be getting stamped in for the 7th/8th month off that visa)

You're FAR better off bouncing out and in by land especially seeing as all you're doing is bouncing to activate the last entry on the VISA before it expires.

You run a HIGH risk of being questioned flying out and in on it versus bouncing by land,,

OK. I don’t mind being questioned as I will have funds, proof of accommodation and proof of onward travel but is there a high chance of being denied entry? I guess it’s up the the immigration officer?

The reason I don’t want to take the time to do a land boarder crossing is because I have a couple of pals in samui on a 10 day holiday at the same time.

The Nong Khai land border won't ask anything when you cross into thialand (no proof of funds, no onward travel and no lodging etc)

when I re-enter in March I will get 60 days and extend for 30.

I may go home to the UK or perhaps Australia for a while, not 100% sure yet.
