What do I need to know about applying for the DTV visa in Thailand, especially regarding dependency and business qualifications?

My husband and I would like to apply for the DTV visa. I know this is still all new but wondered if anyone had experience yet. I will be applying through LA. I’ve seen the requirements for the DTV application and emailed the consulate but haven’t received a reply. I have 2 questions maybe someone has dealt with something similar.

1: My husband owns a business that is seasonal and we’ve gone to Thailand in the off season, the last several years. We’ve always jumped between Thailand and neighboring countries on tourist visas. This DTV seems the better option for us to stay our whole time in Thailand. The business is not an online business but he could still do some communication and scheduling while we are away remotely. He does have a business registration with our state and tax forms, funds in the bank and he could write a letter stating the intent to return for work when the season work starts again in the spring. Anyone being accepted with something similar. Any suggestions?

2: I was also curious if anyone has applied as the dependent. Does my husband’s application need to be approved first before me applying as a dependent? or can they be done around the same time, 1 right after the other, without waiting for the first approval?

Thanks for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on applying for a DTV visa for themselves and their husband, who owns a seasonal business. They have questions regarding eligibility based on their business activities and the application process for dependents. Comments highlight that dependents can only be applied for after the primary holder's DTV visa is approved, emphasize the importance of demonstrating legitimate business activities, and note financial requirements. Shared experiences include successful application strategies and the need for thorough documentation.

i have just received my DTV visa today approved though LA. First i sent all info / papers July 17th and i didn't hear anything for 2 weeks. ( website say 15 business days minimum ) but i didn't see that. I sent the normal info/ requirements listed on the website and for "Freelance" but i was confused with the part to upload your portfolio... so i sent a screen shot of my work website only. They sent a message to the portal requesting more docs and said to upload those required docs again. i figured i would throw the kitchen sink this time and see what worked, haha.. i own my own business and sent them a PDF combined with 1 contract i have with a client, 1 business tax certificate bill and 2 page of my website /portfolio ( make sure its under 3mb i think ) and then a few days later Approved. hope this helps as the information they ask for is a bit confusing for some wanting to make sure they send the correct things! good luck.

- R u applying E-Visa directed via the Thai Consulate LA? I'm from Hawaii and the Consulate here said I have to apply through the Thai Consulate LA. But when I go to the website it only directs me to apply E Visa? This is all new to me so i very well could be missing a lot.

Did you check their requirements on their website?

Dependent requirements include "the DTV visa approval of the DTV visa holder".

And please be aware that LA asks you to have 500,000 THB or ($16,000 USD) for each applicant (including dependant category) as financial proof.

A dependent DVT visa can only be applied for after a family member has Already received the DVT visa.

Be careful with your explanation of why you need to have the DVT visa.

As it's designed for those who conduct work activity on the internet while living in Thailand.

Your description of your business activity as stated in your post, is that you both merely you own a business in the USA and holiday in SE Asian countries, including Thailand.

Good Luck 🍀

totally agree, too much irrelevant information on the business. It's a business, period.

show that you have business in the USA and will be in Thailand in contact with your business activity in the USA.

does the application ask for an explanation? In Thailand it's generally better to supply only what's asked for. If they need more info they will ask, don't volunteer info.

The online application I've seen asks for the primary DTV holders visa when applying for the dependant/spouse visa. So, it appears like it's a 2 step process.

As far as business registration, too new of a visa to know what works, and depending on the consulate you apply with. Just try and show as legitimate a business as possible.
