If you are on a marriage visa, can you put 800,000bht in the bank and not have to show a monthly income Or do you still have to show the 40,000/60,000bht a month income each month on top of the bank balance?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are on a marriage visa in Thailand, you can either maintain a bank balance of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to applying for an extension or provide proof of a monthly income of 40,000 baht. The comments clarify that maintaining 800,000 baht in the bank is not necessary if you fulfill one of the two options, and it is sufficient to have 400,000 baht for 3 months prior to renewal.

on a retirement visa, can you work on your own property ie clean garden, plant and pick vegetables, fruit etc.

Or will I be better off getting a marriage visa to obtain a work permit?

urban myths do exist about retirees being arrested for maintaining their homes , gardens or boats but I believe that’s all they are , good conversation over a cold one.

yes 2 months, but I always make a habit for extra 1 month, play safe, nothing to lose

I do the same for my retirement extension, I get the bank set up the letter of guarantee for three months, although 2 months would suffice

There are 2 ways to apply for extension married to Thai.

1) 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name only at least 2 months before you apply.

2) proof of 40,000 baht per month income.

I believe for the 40K per month option that too must be in a Thai bank account and ‘seeded’ for a few months before you apply for the visa … unless you’re a citizen of one of the few countries that still provide ‘income verification letters’ from their embassies & consulates (Canada, and some European countries … USA, UK & Australia no longer provide these so you will need to have a Thai bank account that meets the requirements for money & timing.)

not quite.

If your embassy certifies income then you must use embassy certified income.

With a marriage visa you can also have a job in Thailand and if you can show your job pays at least 40,000 baht per month that will also be accepted.

But if you want to use bank transfers (your embassy does not certify income) then you'll have to show a full year of transfers, not a few months.
