Hi!

I am currently on a marriage visa. Would like to renew it in October but do not want to keep locking up 400k every year. What are the conditions for the monthly income scheme? Is it enough if I just have money coming consistently from abroad to a Thai bank account or do they need some document(s) about the source of the money?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conditions for renewing a marriage visa under the monthly income scheme in Thailand allow for consistent income from abroad. If you can provide a bank statement showing at least 40,000 baht received monthly in a Thai bank account for the past 12 months, that may suffice. However, if you're from a country with an embassy that can issue an affidavit of income, you might be able to use a letter from your embassy instead of bank statements. It's essential to verify the specific requirements based on your nationality.

he is Estonian, he needs to check if his embassy in Thailand can certify his monthly income. With the embassy letter he can get the "1-year extension of stay permit based on marriage with a Thai" using the yearly income method. If his embassy is issueing this letter, he does NOT need a bank statement over recent 12 months

YOUR immigration office does it that way :O . Not every office is the same. :/

Most offices allow you to get the year transaction print out that shows the monthly transfers several days before and they allow regular bank letter to be good for up to 7 days from the date you get it.

ALL you need to do is update your bank book on the date you apply.

Everyone should always check with your office to make sure how they do it. ..

... but you either have the 40k/month or the 400k banked and which ever way, yes you need to show statements but the OP doesn't want 400k tied up all the time and is looking for any other options to meet the required funding.

if you're from a country whose consulate issues the "affidavit of income from abroad" notary document you have to use that as proof if you are using monthly income method

BUT

If you come from a country whose consulate doesn't issue the notary document anymore (US, UK and Australia) or never did issue it, IF you want to use monthly income method for proof of funds, you have to transfer IN to the country in a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht a month, each month every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for your yearly extension.

You saved me a huge amount of hassel on this issue of a affidavit of income. Thank you again.

Just to confirm, you did contact your embassy, and they are NOT issuing the affidavit of income from aboard, right?
