Has there been any updates on the Special tourist visa? Only old info on embassy website which mentions ASQ requirement. And proof of accommodation required for entire duration of stay.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Current information indicates that the Special Tourist Visa (STV) requires proof of accommodation for the entire stay in Thailand, which is consistent with previous guidelines. Users have shared their experiences, noting that booking platforms like Agoda allow for last-minute cancellations, which is helpful. However, some applicants have reported issues at consulates, particularly in Los Angeles, where they were not granted the STV despite having complete applications, leading to a 90-day tourist visa being issued instead.

I wrote this in another thread, be prepared; Los Angeles Consulate literally forced me to accept a 90 day tourist visa instead of the STV visa I applied for. I had 100% perfect application, all docs complete. I just somehow don't fit to their STV criteria eventhough all my docs do! Good luck if you have to apply LA consulate for STV !!
they never ever give a solid reason. After submitting everything in a way they like, they are still not convinced. I think all this stuff depends on the staff or consulate handling the application
Options are limited, I'm under 50 so no retirement visa. I'd like the option of staying 6+ months so 30d visa exemption and extension is no good. Its £600 for flight, £600 insurance, then 3months accommodation paid for all before applying for the ST visa which could be refused or delayed. Not easy at all.
from reports on here people have applied for the STV. You’d need your visa number to then apply for the ThailandPass system. The STV is a very restrictive visa and you may want to research if it’s the best option for you. Other visa entries may be easier to obtain.

I've been putting off booking / applying in the hope more STV info may become available, it hasn't.
So, the procedure; book flights/accommodation/insurance then apply for STV. After receiving approval of STV then apply for thailandpass? Is this correct? Or can they both be applied for at same time, initial flight / accommodation booking would be for the 3months, obviously greater than the 30day on arrival.
no I haven’t. From most stories I’ve heard it’s certainly not the best visa option. It may work for your circumstances, but an alternative maybe easier.
