What are the application requirements for the Special Tourist Visa (STV) to stay in Thailand longer than 60 days?

I want to stay in Thailand for longer than 60 days (as a tourist), so I believe that my only current choice is the STV.

I have contacted the UK Thai Embassy, but they don't provide many details about what I have to provide during the visa application process.

Can someone provide me with the precise information, or direct me to a thread?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks information on applying for the Special Tourist Visa (STV) to stay in Thailand for longer than 60 days, having contacted the UK Thai Embassy without clear guidance. Various commenters suggest alternatives like TR60 visa for optimal stay duration and share tips about required documentation such as proof of accommodation. Additionally, there is confusion surrounding the availability of the STV and its application process, with hints that the STV may be applied for only in the applicant's home country.

If you are over 50 - the O visa is 90 days and can be extended multiple times.

And the non-immigrant OA and OX visas are not currently available from the UK Thai Embassy

You sure about that

These screen grabs are from the eVisa website where you get visas for thailand in the UK now and I was able to select BOTH the OA and the OX if I wanted to. and that's saying I'm a Brit IN the UK applying at the consulate in London

Ah, ok Tod, thanks for that, I'll have a look. I was using the non-evisa route on their website and I wasn't getting anywhere

there is no non-eVisa route anymore. ALL thai visas from the US and UK go thru the eVisa website. You don't send your passport in anymore they email you the PDF file that shows you have an approved visa and that's what you show passport control when you stamp in

Thanks Tod. I used the 'old' route before for the Non-Immigrant OA Visa, and just assumed that I had to go down the same path. Appreciate you comments and advice

it' can't be extended "multiple times" 🙁 INSIDE the country it can be extended ONCE based on being over 50 and by meeting the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months 🙁

You say you want to stay in Thailand for more than 60 days but don’t say you want to stay more than 90.

The easiest way is get a TR60 visa and extend in country for 30 days and that gives you 90 and is all pretty simple.

If you want to stay more than 90 days then it becomes more complicated but as you don’t specify everyone is just guessing with their answers.

Thanks again Anndey. I assume that once the STV is approved, I can then cancel the 90 days booking, or is proof of that booking still required somewhere along the line?

what website did you do use? Yeah I was confused on one site since it never gave a clear STV option. Also, did you have to mail off the passport or they sent you an E-visa? Thanks ☺️

I want to stay for as long as possible. The STV gives the opportunity for 270 days, but not a straightforward application, whereas the SETV is more straightforward but with a maximum of 90 days.

Is the STV still available? I haven't seen any mention of it online really... Just the standard 60 day that can be extended once. I thought STV was 90 day can be extended twice but not sure. Thanks guys

So you know...the STV cannot be changed into any other visa inside Thailand. When the 270 days end you must leave.

A little tip if your unsure on anything just upload the pic of your passport (I think I did this for at least 3 questions) if they need more details they will contact you, the staff at London embassy are very good.

Thanks Gerald. My concern now is that I have to provide proof of an accommodation for the whole period of stay - initially 90 days. Is that flexible or are they very strict about this?

you are confusing TWO separate visa types the STV <-Special Tourist Visa is for people who want to stay up to 9 months here. It has far more stringent requirements than a regular single entry tourist visa

If all you're wanting to do is come here for 90 days get a single entry tourist visa

We applied for the 60 day visa (with a 30 day extension in mind later) in December and only put our first hotel which was accepted without issue

I did it in November I think there are about 12 questions where you need to upload proof. Most are quite straight forward but a few are confusing. I sent an email to the embassy and they just said upload what you think is most relevant.

You can get a one time 30 day extension on the 60 day tourist visa so a total of 90 days.

you start working thru the EVisa system and you'll see the requirements once you select the tourist visa as a choice.

This is old but might still have the info
