Hey guys, I have three questions about the STV:
1. Do we know if it will be possible to extend the STV after September 30, when they stop issuing them?
1. For long-term accommodation, should I lease a place before I get there? I was under the impression that to find a place to live in Thailand, you should just show up, but it sounds like they want to know where you'll be before you arrive.
1. (Follow up to #2) If I do have to lease a place, should I lease just for the first 90 days, or should I anticipate the extensions and lease for 180 or 270 days? It's tricky because I want to live in Chiang Mai for a few months but then move South during the burning season - but this won't be until my visa is extended.
Thanks for the help!!
TLDR : Answer Summary
The Special Tourist Visa (STV) cannot be extended beyond September 30, 2021. If you arrive in Thailand after July 3, 2021, you will only receive a 90-day stamp with no options for extension. It is advisable to secure long-term accommodation before arriving in Thailand, as landlords may require proof of your intended residence. If you need to lease a place, consider the length of your stay and whether you will need flexibility due to seasonal changes, but with the STV's limitations, short leases may be more prudent.
