I will be doing a visa extension for STV 90

Day soon. They are asking for a return airline ticket. Also proof of condo rental or other accommodation for entire stay in Thailand. With all sorts of documents from the rental person. So they basically saying you can’t travel around Thailand just be stuck in one place! Crazy anyone got info on this ?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 90-day extension on a Special Tourist Visa (STV) in Thailand, applicants must provide documentation including proof of accommodation for the entire extension period, a fully paid airline ticket, and appropriate insurance coverage. However, requirements can vary significantly by immigration office, leading to inconsistent enforcement. Some users report being asked for proof of reservations and original receipts, while others have successfully obtained extensions with minimal documentation. It is recommended to consult directly with the immigration office you plan to visit for specific requirements.

I'm shutting this down:

1. The STV *VISA* itself is a 90 day visa that lets you stay in Thailand.

2. For people who are already in Thailand, you will be apply for a

"90 day extension of stay based on having a STV"

which is a big difference.

3. It looks like the 90 day extension of stay based on having a STV" is implemented haphazardly between different immigration offices.

The specific, technical requirements from *Bangkok Immigration* are attached.

Everything should be self explanatory. Point 7 is:

- Proof of pre-paid hotel booking with Tax ID number, OR a rental contract, OR your house book.

Point 8 is:

- Proof of insurance that meets the same entry requirements that you used to get the STV.

How do different immigration offices implement these points?

Nobody knows.

*TALK* to your immigration office about what their expectations are. If they gave you some type of handout asking for some strange documents, go through each point with them, and ask them exactly what it means and the documents they expect.

Thank you!

...by the way, just received a report from an STV extension done today in Chiang Mai - no insurance, no accomodation asked (no flight ticket as well). And he was told he can apply for an extension again until latest September 30th and stay until December.

I don’t want to move around but don’t want to book well ahead just in case. The same thing can be said about the ED visa as you need to attend the classes. It’s getting harder work to enjoy yourself out here 😔

The ED visas are for students who want to study. If you are not a student, then you do not qualify for an ED visa

reports that on the German expats group there is a reported expat who in Chiang Mai obtained his STV extension without all the added proofs...

And in Phuket they wanted all proofs and only allowed expat to stamp in to Sept 30th...

And in Bangkok they denied an extension because the expat did not have the correct insurance required for the STV extension .

Yes I think this is generally the intention behind the STV - that you stay in once place. To even get ours in the first place we had to show we had booked a place to stay for the entire duration (including our possible extension). I think this is standard, but indeed doesn't allow for much flexibility if that is what you were looking for.

it doesn't say you have to have one place for 90days, but you need reservation of accommodation for whole extension period.

The STV is the worst visa to get right now, yes you will need to arrange your accomodations ahead of time.

AFAIK, they are not asking for onward travel when you get a 90 day extension on an STV,

BUT

They are asking for

Proof of ASQ

Proof of where you were staying

Proof of where you will be staying for the next 90 days

relevant copies of your passport/departure card

possibly a TM30 receipt (to show where you're staying now)

proof of insurance for the next 90 day extension
