What are the implications of my work and holiday visa (non-immigrant B-A) in Thailand regarding re-entry and stay duration?

Hello, my partner and I are Australian and we are in Thailand (Bangkok) on a work and holiday visa (non-immigrant B-A) which is multi entry and valid for 12 months. The visa in our passports says it is valid until 30 May 2023 (12 months from the date it was granted to us in Australia), however each time we have left and re-entered (I have done this 3 times now) immigration has stamped our passports for 12 months from the date of reentry. So I now have a stamp in my passport saying Iโ€™m admitted until January 2024. This seems too good to be true so I want to get some advice before we rely on it. Can you assist? My main question is does this mean I am legally allowed to remain in Thailand until January 2024? And if so, would I still be able to leave Thailand and re-enter after 30 May 2023? Grateful for any advice you have, or where to seek it, as I do understand this is a rare visa type!

TLDR : Answer Summary
You are legally allowed to remain in Thailand until the 'Admitted Until' date stamped on your passport after each entry, which in your case extends to January 2024 based on your last entry. If you leave Thailand before the original visa expiration date of May 30, 2023, and re-enter, you can potentially receive a new stamp allowing you to stay for another year. However, if you intend to travel after May 30, 2023, you will need a Re-Entry Permit to maintain your legal status for your subsequent entry.

Be aware that you only get 1 year of stay IF you arrive before the valid until date 30 May 2023 and if you travel after that date you need a Re-Entry Permit to keep your stay alive and get the same Admitted Until date on re-entry.

thank you this is incredibly helpful. Is it easy to get a re-entry permit with this visa type?

get it at the airport before you fly out or at the immigration office where you do your 90 day reporting and where you have the TM30 filed showing you stay in that area ๐Ÿ™‚

, no problem at all. Get a re-entry permit when you see your original visa gets expired during your travel out.

, Robert brings up a good point, IF you are going to leave and come back AFTER the visa itself (the sticker) expires you need to BUY a re-entry permit before you leave so you get stamped back in until the expiration date of the entry stamp you have when you exit..

Okay the way ANY visa with an A suffix works (O-A, ED-A, B-A) if it is multiple entry, is

The visa is valid for a year from the date it's issued, (because it's a multiple re-entry) it's valid for unlimited entries during the validity, AND each entry gets you stamped in for a whole new calendar year.

You are correct, if the ls time you entered was Jan 2023 you would have gotten a stamp until Jan 2024, AND if you were to exit, re-enter just before the VISA <- the sticker, expired on the 30th of May 2023, you'd get stamped in until May 2024 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That's how the visa works.

It's a visa type (the B-A) that I've only ever seen aussies able to get ๐Ÿ™‚ So enjoy it ๐Ÿ˜›
