I arrived November 1, 2017 on my retirement visa and got stamped in for 12 months. Last month I went to Laos and when I came back through Thai Immigration, they again gave me another 12 months. So does my visa expire on November still or can I go until April 2019?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the expiration of their retirement visa after re-entering Thailand. Initially stamped for 12 months upon arrival on a retirement visa, the user exited to Laos and returned to receive another 12-month stamp. The discussion revealed that with strategic exit and re-entry, one can effectively gain up to 2 years out of a single Non-Immigrant O-A visa, depending on the re-entry date relative to the initial expiration stamp.

I don't see where any extension was discussed - except for the additional time he got from the April exit and reentry.

This post depicts the great benefits of the Non Imm. O-A Visa. ... basically 2 for 1.

Exiting and Reentering Thailand near the First year expiry date (enter before / valid until) assures another near full year of use. A really good deal!

When a person who has an O-A visa and finishes the two years that person has an option of Applying for an one year Extension of Stay based on being age 50 or over.. Or they can go back to their home country to get a new Non Immigrant O-A Visa.

What happens, please, after second year? Same application procedure as for original?

Peerke Poep no, he needs to exit/re-enter the country in Nov before the visa itself expires to get stamped in for a new year.

Peerke Poep NO, he doesn't NEED an extension. He's stamped in until April 2019 <- almost a year from now AND if he exits and re-enters the country this November (just before the VISA itself expires) he'll get stamped in for a whole new year until November 2019 <- that's the soonest he'd have to apply for an extension IF he uses this visa like it's designed

These extras are required for the O-A everywhere.

He can do it again - Exit and Renter several more times - if he wants to... right up until a day before expiry... If he just wants to travel or whatever. No Reentry Permit needed with the O-A in the First Year - it is a Multi-Entry Visa 'M' .

I understand that he get stamps until April 19; but had he waited until November would not he be stamp until November 19?? This he lose his seven months. The point being during the first year of the visa you wait until just before its expiration before you renew?
David ********
So because he went out in April he cut off 7 months he could of gotten had he visited Laos in November ??

Peerke Poep no, he would have to exit/re-enter the country BEFORE the VISA expires to get stamped in for a new year

Peerke Poep as long as he exits/re-enters the country just before the "enter before" date on the VISA itself he'll be stamped in for another whole year. He would only need a re-entry permit if he's going to leave the country AFTER the original visa expires (during the second year).

no, the O-A visa (that you get from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here) gets you stamped in for a full year every time you enter the country for the validity of the visa. He didn't lose any time. When he entered the country in April he got stamped in until april 2019.

What is the "enter before" or "valid until" date on the VISA itself?

You can get pretty much 2 years out of it. If you leave and return just before the 'enter before' date on the visa you'll be stamped in for another year.

If it is a non immigrant OA visa as it sounds like it is, you can actially get two years out of this visa by exiting and returning just prior to when your first year would have been up, and again getting stamped in for 12 months. Just be aware that for the second 12 months you will need to buy a single or multiple entry permit if you plan to travel in and out of Thailand in that second year 1,200 baht or 4,000 baht respectively
