Question for Tod Daniels:

If applying for a one year extension of a type O visa (marriage), based on over 50,000 baht coming into a Thai Bank monthly, please explain the procedure.

Thank you very much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a one-year extension of a type O visa (based on marriage) in Thailand, you need to demonstrate that at least 40,000 baht has been transferred monthly into your Thai bank account from abroad for the past 12 months. Ensure you have a letter from the bank listing these international transfers along with a standard bank statement. It's advised to consult your local immigration office to verify specific requirements and obtain the necessary handouts. The specific immigration office you apply at may affect your process, so it's crucial to communicate with them directly.

You need to go to your immigration office, you need to talk to the highest person you can (so tell your wife to man up and push to get as high as she can up that chain of command) AND you need to hash out with them what the requirements are for you to get back on yearly extensions.

I'm only quoting the rules and you've been told something different by your immigration office so they are who you need to talk to

If you are wanting to use monthly income to meet the proof of funds (and you come from one of the countries that do NOT issue the income affidavit notary letters anymore) your only option is to have transferred in to the country 40K baht a month each month every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for the extension.

Now you're being told something by your immigration office and I think you need to go back out there, WITH your thai wife and really hash out what they're saying.

The amount you need to bring in is NOT 50K baht a month it's 40K baht a month.

You transfer in from abroad to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht a month each month every month for the previous 12 months. You get a letter from the bank listing ONLY the international transfers, AND you get the normal bank letter too.

BUT before you're going to go this route GO to your immigration office and get the hand out that lists the requirements to get that extension.

Thank you very much. We have been to that office three times and each time the rules have changed. The last time we asked they said that the deposit of 50,000 baht had to be of record for three months then they would stamp the passport for an additional two month inspection. After that they would issue a 12 month extension of my O Type visa. I’m still confused.
