Gather this new service for Phuket will be via VFS Global as well.

The E-Extension Visa service is currently available at Immigration Bureau 1 in Bangkok, as well as Immigration Offices in Chonburi, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The new E-Extension Visa service in Phuket will be available through VFS Global, similar to how it is currently offered at Immigration Bureau 1 in Bangkok and other locations like Chonburi and Chiang Mai. There are mixed feelings about this service, with concerns over its efficiency and additional costs, as users still need to visit the immigration office for the visa stamp.

Can’t see yet how this will simplify extensions. It’s more expensive and you still have to go the immigration to get the stamp put in.
