Hi, has anybody recently renewed a UK passport from Bangkok?

What was the wait time? Is 45 days enough?

What would happen if It didn't arrive in time?

Thanks

Martin

Answer summary

The wait times for renewing a UK passport from Bangkok vary significantly, with reported times ranging from as short as 4 weeks to as long as 99 days. Many users mentioned average processing times of around 12-14 weeks. Given this, 45 days may not be sufficient, especially with the potential delays due to holidays or strikes. If the passport does not arrive in time, it could complicate travel or visa extension plans.

Has anybody used a passport to extend a visa while an application in in process? I know travel is not permitted but will it flag anything at immigration? Thanks

Is that reported from people or the passport website? The latter is saying 11 weeks. In my experience it has always been way faster but I don't know now.

Pre covid you might have been lucky and get it in around 2 weeks. From reports we see on here and other forums people have been waiting up to 14 weeks. May have come down by now. Haven’t seen many posts on it for a few weeks.

You can get an extension at immigration as VFS don’t keep your old passport. You colour photo copy every single page as part of the application process.

Bear in mind that if the reason for you getting a new passport is that your old one is running out of time any extension you may receive will only be as long as the validity date of your current passport

You can only extend visa up to expiry date of your passport

I did a few weeks ago they just mirrored what the .gov website said. I know you can't travel with a renewal application pending but what about extending at immigration?

email them for an appointment (required) and ask them directly. They’ll know the latest wait times.
