Greetings, going for a new SETV in 2 weeks. Was thinking of Cambodia. Any precautions to keep in mind? Been reading Thai Consulates denying visas/getting stricter by the day everywhere.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original inquiry revolves around concerns about obtaining a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) in Cambodia due to increasing strictness from Thai Consulates. Commenters provide insights on requirements like bank statements (up to 6 months), proof of funds (20,000 Baht), onward travel, and hotel bookings. They suggest using travel agents to simplify the process and mention Savanakhet as a relaxed option compared to Phnom Penh and other locations.

, don't get confused. I posted the link from the Consulate. the 6 months of bank statements are asked by a visa agent in Siem Reap.

I think that likely

Probably she was told so. Anyway I'll bring the 3 documents the Embassy need - hotel, flight and 20k statement. Should be fine I guess.

The girl at my place did.....but she was young and with limited English.

So agents being tougher than the Embassy? Makes no sense, but I believe it if you say so. So agents want 6 month of bank statements with now much money as proof?

Exactly.

Wait, first time I hear that. 6 months of bank statements?! I thought it was a bank statement showing 20K Baht proof !! New rules in Phnom Phen?!
David ********
This was from the girl at the travel agency.....not an official so who knows? I was sort of surprised too.

I am awaiting my visa from Phnom Penh while in Siem Reap. The travel agent required the usual photos and passport and copies but no onward ticket.

She did require 6 months of bank statements and awaited a confirmation that it was acceptable before accepting my payment.

Five day wait and a $15 service charge.

I intend to prepare all necessary documentation, the use of an agent indeed can save me the hassle of of the trips to Embassy. Thanks for the update.

Last reports were even when you use an agent there you need proof of 20K baht in a bank account, proof of onward travel within 60 to 90 days and proof of a hotel booking for at least 3 or 4 days.

The agent my Son used sorted out onward travel, and hotel, at no cost. He had proof of $.

Use an agent there, saves tuk tuk and 2 return trips to Thailand embassy and cost about $12. Fee.

Oh, no next day like Penang and Vientiane.

Savanakhet is also a place to consider, heard good reports from there.

I find Savannakhet the best. No need to be right on time at 9 am when it opens, it's the next day that you should get there half an hour or so before pick up time (wait under the shade at the shop across the road). Half the crowd you get at Vientiane, and seems more relaxed and less strict. Need a room, 300-400 baht, the Savan Patthana guesthouse on Sena Road, 020 556

(3 kms south of the consulate) is a very good choice, no, I don't get a commission but the owners are real good people, the manager has even given me a lift to the consulate a couple of times to pick up my passport. You even get a free banana and coffee in the morning, ha!, ha! Yes, avoid Penang, from all reports getting nastier but KL may be an option. I was there a year or so ago, didn't have proof of onward travel, they told me to go across the road to a hotel and book a ticket there, did just that, brought the copy of the ticket back and no problems, just remember to wear clean and respectable clothes (there is a sign inside saying just that, so no singlets, beach attire) and you will be fine.
Robert *******
Nope, an extra day to enjoy as tourist there.

Phnom Penh want all three proofs, funds on bank account, accommodation and onward flights. It also take 3 days to get the visa, so apply f.e monday get back wednesday.
