What are the current options for entering Thailand regarding the tourist visa and visa exemption?

Hi guys, not sure if this has always been the case but the Belgian embassy is now requiring proof of booking for at least half a stay, when applying for a 60-day tourist visa.

Honesty due to all uncertainties, I am not really comfortable booking a 30-day stay in advance already. Can I also enter Thailand with a 30-day visa on arrival, an extend 2 times to a total of 90 days? Or is the only option to stay 90 days, the 60-day single entry visa + a 30 day extension locally?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the recent requirement from the Belgian embassy for proof of booking for a 60-day tourist visa to Thailand, expressing discomfort with booking a stay in advance. They seek clarification on whether they can enter Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption, extend it to 90 days, or if they should pursue the 60-day tourist visa with a local extension option. Comments suggest using a visa exemption for the initial entry and possibly a 60-day tourist visa with extensions, while some recommend making refundable bookings for visa applications.

Just book a refundable booking and apply. They’re only doing this cuz they have to track down covid positive tourists. In passport control, there are signs everywhere that says “ you MUST have address in Thailand after quarantine” Just book whatever and be cooperative like a respectful traveler if you got covid. The gov usually don’t care where u stay. Maybe a disease control center recommendation.

Make a booking that you can pay directly to the property without using a debit card which is also cancelation free. Cancel it after you get the visa

Take the 30 day visa exempt on arrival and work from there. That leaves you needing only a phuket sandbox 7 day reservation...

Entry with no visa is not visa on arrival, but called visa exemption. You get 30 days and can extend that once for a further 30 days. A tourist visa would give you 60 days plus a one time extension of 30 days too. There may be a possibility that they’re still selling the “Covid extensions” but that’s just a maybe at this stage.
