"The Thai embassy in Laos has announced that applicants will need to show a Thai bank book with at least 25,000 baht"

Is there any truth to this? Or do you just need to show you have 25k in cash, or in any bank somewhere.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses recent updates regarding the Thai visa application process at the embassy in Laos, particularly the requirement for applicants to show proof of funds. An article claims that applicants need a Thai bank book with at least 25,000 baht, but commenters express skepticism, noting the challenges for first-time tourists without a Thai bank account. Some commenters suggest checking embassy websites for the most accurate and current information, while others share their experiences, indicating an evolving situation.

i plan on doing that as a 2nd option ( i will be going in 1 week to laos for a tourist visa), but initially i will just show them 60k in thai baht cash.

Seem like probably untrue.. An embassy requiring a bank account from Thailand for a tourist visa.. Most tourists should not a bank account and first time tourist would have no way to get one.

I recently wanted to go and get a TR from Vientiane, and I discussed with one of the most reputable agents from Pattaya (she also used to work in the system for many years, and has direct connections everywhere). The lady (the agent) organizes the trip, and she insisted that you need a Thai bank account with 25.000b, stamped bank book, and bank statement from the same day as the day you apply. I though it was not a good choice, so I dropped the ideas and went elsewhere

right, I see on the embassy website they may require you to show 3 months of ur own bank info. But a Thai bank wouldn’t make much sense

This is over a month old. The article leaves a lot to be desired, basically making it sound like you can't do border runs to the Laos border for visa exempt entry, when in fact Laos is the best place to do those.

Just check the website of the consulate you plan to use. All of the neighboring consulates have up to date requirements posted.

Also Vientiane you will need an appointment and they are much more difficult than Savannakhet where you can do a walk-in application.
