What are the common mistakes that lead to DTV visa rejections in Thailand?

Jun 28, 2025
a day ago
I heard that some DTV applicants receive a rejection or cancellation email either immediately or within a day after paying the visa fee. The embassy doesn’t provide any reason for the rejection and doesn’t request any additional documents—just a simple rejection notice. Many applicants feel disappointed because they believe they submitted genuine information and fully complied with the visa application requirements. What major mistakes could lead to rejection in such cases?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many applicants for the DTV visa in Thailand face immediate rejections shortly after submitting their applications, often without receiving a clear explanation from the embassy. Common reasons for rejection include incorrect data entry such as misspelled names, wrong passport numbers, and issues with the validity date of the passport. Applicants are advised to carefully check all information before submission, as mistakes can lead to application cancellation. While some embassies provide guidelines on common errors, the process remains opaque for many, resulting in disappointment and confusion among applicants.

Are you a Myanmar national, permanent resident, or?

I think anyone applying for DTV under "soft power" should confirm by email with the embassy prior to e-visa submission that in fact the chosen soft power activity will qualify. Unfortunately this DTV was very poorly conceived and now Thai immigration is trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

My first one was almost immediately rejected because I used the ‘scan passport’ feature and didn’t triple check the few typos it made

@Michael ********
so we cannot use scanned one, is it like that?

Anonymous participant 792 or just be sure to completely check every field after it populates

Thai embassiy in the Netherlands has a document with common mistakes that lead to cancellation, I don't know about other embassies, but expect the common mistakes to be the same.

There's a few soft power that offer refund now ( even though you pay much more)
Wannikea *********
Anonymous participant 892 soft power will only refund if there is something amiss in their paperwork, there are many personal areas of the application where things can go bad which have nothing to do with the activity.

Charge back to credit card as service not provided and move to Vietnam.

Anonymous participant 591 is Vietnam super easy on visa options?
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 591 Advising people to commit fraud is not allowed in this group.

Charge back while the service is provided is illegal, it might give you problems with your credit card company and if granted accidentally by the credit card company, you certainly never will get any possibility to get a Thai visa.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
it is not advising him to commit fraud. If they did not provide the service then they did not deserve the money.

So let me be clear with you because you don’t seem to understand, denying someone’s application outright with no reason and taking the money that is fraud I don’t care if it became from the Thai Embassy, it’s fraud and you’re allowed to report that to your credit card. The credit card actually decides OK like if there’s a case or not.

Now, if they worked on the application and everything and then denied it, that’s a different they performed a service. Do you understand now?
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 591 Let me be clear to you also, because you do not understand anything about visa application and credit card chargeback.

Rejecting just means they performed the service. They warn you that paying in no way means you will get a visa, and that they can reject for any reason without having to even tell you the reason.

Also it does not make any difference if it is rejected automatically within seconds or after hours of work.

With submitting the application you agree with these conditions.

They exactly delivered what they promised, so you have to pay.

The payment is not for the visa itself, but for processing the application, regardless of the outcome and time they need to process.

I perfectly understand you don't understand this and therefore give the wrong advise.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
if they rejected the application and under a day, they didn’t provide a service.

A chargeback is not a criminal offense. It is a dispute between the card issue where the card company and the merchant.

When the card holder submit the dispute, it goes into a process. They don’t automatically get their money back. If the card holder is determined that they commit committed fraud, they will face charges from the credit card company for it. They don’t just simply get a refund.

It actually does make a difference if it was rejected within seconds or not, maybe it doesn’t to you for some wild reason I don’t know if you work at an Embassy or something and you’re trying to protect Embassy workers? Unfortunately not every business and not every entity is honest on this planet did you know that this government in this country has an 88% corruption rate?

So if the person wants to charge the thing back they can but it’s really up to the credit card company to make that decision on what’s going to happen based on the information that they get from the merchant so it’s not like they just get an automatic like free pass like you’re insinuating And no they don’t get to just deny anybody’s application just cause they don’t like them and they could just reject it it’s not it doesn’t work that way, they accept credit cards anyways it’s different if they pay cash.

I charged back the embassy of France, because they mailed back the application right away denied, and it had everything they would qualify for the visa, but they didn’t look at it and you know how I didn’t look at it because the credit card investigated them and found that they didn’t even process the application. They just mailed it back and tried to collect the money because it was a third-party service doing it on behalf of the embassy.

So it was deemed that they did not perform a service and they did not deserve the money. It was taken back from them and guess what when I applied at a different French embassy they gave me a visa, there was no problem with it so take your information somewhere else it’s useless.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 591 Your case with a third party service is different, the third party has to deliver your application to the embassy.

When they did not deliver to the embassy, they did not perform what they were paid for, a third party not even has the right to decide about an application, they only might advise you to correct documents, but the decision is always with the embassy. Normally with a third party, it is also the third party that collects the money and not the embassy.

For Thai e-visa there is no third party, so when you get a reaction on your application that it is rejected or approved, that means it is processed and they have the right to keep the fee.

There is no minimum or maximum time of processing needed, they deserve the money.

It is very clearly stated on the e-visa site there is no refund of fee when the application is rejected, so in this case there is no right to chargeback.

Claiming back while you know the service is delivered just is fraud.

Happened to me. Now I'm staying in Vietnam where they aren't making things so hard on expats.
Russ *******
@Andrew *****
How are you staying in vietnam long term? Just 3 month evisa?
Aye ****
@Russ ******
One of the rookie mistakes I made on my first solo trip to Vietnam was not selecting dates for the full 90 days. For example, the visa allows you to stay up to 90 days, but on my application, I used the dates for my Airbnb and submitted that as proof of lodging. After being there, I wanted to stay longer but couldn’t because the visa expired after 28 days as opposed to 90 days. Happy travels!
Pyi *******
One of my friend application had the same issue, received a cancellation email on the same day, but that is because of input the wrong information about passport expiry date.

Inside the email they included the reasons of cancellation.

After that he recorrect it and submitted by paying the Visa fees again. Now got the visa, for your information.

No idea about immediate rejection.
John *********
The only way is to triple check everything you have put down on the application, then…check it again.

Of course you could be rejected of other reasons, previous criminal record in Thailand or abroad. You can be rejected for leaving the country of application before the decision is made.

Otherwise, tens of thousands are being approved without any issues GL

This is harsh. They should give a chance to correct human errors 😢
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 521 Why should THEY be responsible for YOUR error.

You can just apply for the visa again, so they give you a chance to correct your error.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
bad part is forfeiting visa fee without giving a chance to correct it. it’s not only harsh but arrogant too as they don’t mention actual problem. so the applicant would keep guessing, re-attempting and losing money.

BTW it’s not MY own case but all about this post. So, you preaching to ME is useless.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 521 It is up to them what service they want to provide, you can have an opinion about it, but after reading instructions you should know you have to fill in correct the application form.

Making mistakes can cost money, that is someting you will experience everywhere in life. The one making the mistake is responsible and should pay. If they started giving all people making mistakes free chances to apply again, the process would become more expensive and then others pay for people to lazy to check their application.

And I am telling this to you because it is YOU that is telling "they should give a chance to correct". They give as many chances as you want, but you just have to pay for them, and not somebody else.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
I am sure you can justify their not communicating reason for rejection too. Preaching is a disease at this age, not your fault
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 521 I am not justifying anything, I can understand why embassies in the whole world act like this. A visa is not just a service or a product, you also do not have the choice where to buy. Embassies do not want to spend time explaining why they reject. There just is no need for them to be customer friendly.
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 521 that’s why it’s so important to carefully check each and every part before submitting the application

Cancellations/ rejections usually happen at the early stage if something is wrong in your data. If you pass the document check phase they can reject you for insufficient financial information. If they rejected you next day 100 % something was wrong in your passport info/data and place of issuance of your passport . Hope this helps 🙏
Anna *********
Usually due to incorrect information Maybe passport number country of issue misspelling of name etc
Tod *********
When it's rejected that fast it's because of a data entry error where either the data you hand typed in

OR

the data that autofilled when you scanned the MRZ area of the data page of your passport had a mistake in it that you didn't see before you submitted the application

🙁
Alex *********
@Tod ********
that will lead your application to be cancelled and not rejected.
