Do Thailand immigration request for your taxes before they give you your login information my broker said they need my tax information which is being requested by immigration and he told me I will get my login information on Tuesday. This seems a little sketchy. Is my broke lying to me. Dtv visa
Summary so far
A user expressed confusion over whether Thailand immigration requests tax information before providing login details for their DTV visa application. While some commenters indicated this might be a scam, others mentioned that tax records could be requested under certain circumstances, particularly for work-related applications. The conversation highlighted concerns about the legitimacy of the user's broker, with many suggesting caution and verifying the information directly with the immigration or embassy authorities.

The only interest the Immagration have about me and my income is to review every 12 months that I've deposited a min of 40k Bt in my Thai Bank Account from a transfer from outside of Thailand...
That seems to me to be the major consideration to renew my Marriage Visa for another 12 months... 555
Scammer's always want so social security number and personal information. Someone purchased a car in my name in the past. Be VERY careful, protect your information. You can go online for immigration and st up your own account
The author of this post still does not understand what is immigration and embassy. They are totally different departments. Thai immigration did not request his tax at all. And Thai immigration in this case has nothing to do with his visa at all. According to this, I assume, Thai embassy in his country suspected something from him. So they requested this and would be more.
I think the TO is mixing up several things. The reason could be that he doesn't understand the process, the explanation of the visa agent and maybe did Google research.
I'm just assuming:
He engaged a visa agent to prepare and file his DTV application.
The agent gathered several information. Some information provided might not be sufficient or - based on the experience of the agent - the embassy is usually requesting additional information such as latest tax returns to prove the annual income situation.
Due to work capacity the agent will start with the preparation and filing on Tuesday, i.e. the login details would be available by then.
Is it a scam? Sure it still could be a scam, but I guess the TO is just totally confused and mixing up things.
By the way:
It is not unusual that embassies request tax returns. If you apply as a freelancer or self-employed for a remote work DTV it is usually the only way to properly prove the income situation.
Also if you apply for the work from Thailand professionals LTR you have to submit the last two tax returns to prove that you meet the income requirements.
Sue Heimchen nothing to do with tax? You could - at least theoretically - stay 333 days a year in Thailand. You become a Thai tax resident after staying 180 days per year in Thailand. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have to pay taxes but officially you would have to file and submit a Thai tax return.
Opening a bank account and tax has nothing to do with each other.
And as others already said, the problem here might be, that the TO doesn't understand the process.
The agent might have gathered all information upfront. Probably based on previous experience with this particular embassy. Sometimes payslips are sufficient sometimes not and then a tax return would be the most official proof of income. Maybe the agent will start the application process next Tuesday due to other outstanding tasks and that could be the reason why the TO would receive the login details then.
I am wondering if your agent is lying to you, your tax number in your country, what benefit can get your agent from this???? he will pay your tax for you? 😅😅
Can you give a bit more detail on exactly what stage you are at and what is being asked for?
If you are applying for the DTV, which one, workation or soft power?
It's common for a consulate to want to see tax returns when applying for the DTV. They don't always ask for this but they often do. Particularly if applying for a work DTV, they want this to verify the income you claim.
I'm presuming login information is your login to the Thai e-visa portal.
Maybe step back and explain in more detail exactly what stage you're at and what the question is. But if this interpretation above is what you mean, then yes it is normal for them to want to see a tax return.
Roel van Hameren but it does for example if you are on a work permit you need need to supply your tax records before they approve another year.. So the requirement is in place already they can easily extend that requirement to all 12 month extensions of stay.. The OP doesn't specify what he is applying for
At this stage there is absolutely no demand or request to provide tax information to the immigration not even your tax no. However, theoretically this could be an issue in the future.
Alexander DThornerian Last few years there been a lot of talk about having a tax number to renew retirement visa but on the day I found the officer said not yet ?? A friend also went to revenue dept to check and they told him if your not earning money in Thailand no TN needed ..... since then theres been a lot of talk about tax on money brought in as well so whilst you have a valid question and one many are asking as usual different depts have different rules and in the end we are in the middle trying to work it out but one thing can be said about the confusion is many lawyers and financial advisers are earning well over the confusion.
Ian May terminate all doubts and check with Thai revenue service directly. They have quite a good web page in English and yes 100% clear - if you remit money into Thailand you have to file a tax report having a TIN. The actual tax situation depends on your countries DTA but filing is mandatory.
Alexander DThornerian yes there is if you have a work permit you need to supply all your tax details before they renew your work permit... There is nothing stopping them requiring this for other long term visas and extensions of stay... With the current Crack downs on bank accounts etc I guess it's just a matter of time when they will tie your tax affairs to your EOS
GreenPomelo3895 it will be a progressive implementation upto the banking crackdown on who is holding accounts it's been free for all, they have effectively closed the door on anyone who is not a long term resident to hold a bank account.. Ie to hold an account you must in practice be tax resident.. To be a long term "visa" holder you must be tax compliant.. As long as the next step
Cliff Sussman nope a logical conclusion to the crack down on bank accounts and nominee stuff
I predict in the not too distant future you will need to prove all your tax affairs are in order before being issued a long term extension of stay or visa in Thailand, with the threshold being at 180 days 👍
Paul Anthony McDermott Very unlikely. No need to fear monger. Thai authorities have no way of dealing with foreign tax documents. Not their jurisdiction.
RadiantCamel1017 er after 180 days in Thailand as a foreigner...You are tax resident and it is their jurisdiction... 🤦
i can't understand how people are so clueless about multiple tax jurisdictions actually work... 😂
Let's keep it simple for you
180 days or more in Thailand in a tax year, your are resident for tax.. So yes you are under their jurisdiction and tax laws
Currently the tax law only applies to money remitted to Thailand as assessable income, but there is nothing stopping making your worldwide income assessible in Thailand, no different to what the US does with its citizens and green card holders
Not a case they can't do it, it's a case of will they do it ❓
And by extension there is nothing stopping them requiring to prove your tax affairs are in order in Thailand prior to giving you long term visa or extension of stay renewal, exactly as they do now with work permit holders.. You need to prove your tax affairs are in order prior to them giving you your extension
You sound like one of those people who were saying put your house/business under a nominee business structure... They will never crack down on that 🤦
I have an broker doing process for me but he requested my tax information last week I gave tax documents I’m from USA and he told me I will get my login information next week so I can check my process, but I don’t understand if I do not have my login information why they requested my taxes and he told me the embassy requested it DTV VISA
Harry Patal Very confused and unclear. Are you in Thailand?? Are you processing your DTV in Thailand?? with an agent? or in USA? with an agent?? your agent is Thai and working in Thailand? or American working in USA?? You are doing extension of stay with DTV in Thailand?? So you gave your tax doc to the agent? tax number from USA or Thailand? you stayed more than 180 days last year in Thailand? all is unclear and confused.
Harry Patal that is what your country required from the embassy ( Thai embassy in USA here?) You are processing your visa in your country through Thai embassy there? if yes, it is your country requested. The agent in this case has nothing to do for that.
I guess by broker you mean an agent that is filing a DTV application on your behalf. The consulate processing your application can indeed request proof that you are a registered tax payer in your home country, particularly for applications based on remote work.
Harry Patal Thai embassy in your country just followed the rules of your country. So your country made it so. Thai embassy has nothing to do with your tax in USA. and it is not Thai immigration. but thai embassy in your country. your agent needs it because your country need Thai embassy to do it.
I've no idea how an agent processes your application, if all they are doing is using the exact same process as you or I would why even bother using them?
the agent is the one with your login information. They had to create an account under your name before they could even submit an application. The embassy doesn't have anything to give you. The agent is lying.
