Unfair Treatment by the Thai Embassy in Egypt

I am deeply disappointed and frustrated with the Thai Embassy in Egypt due to the unfair and unexplained treatment I received regarding my visa application.

I applied and paid for a DTV online, fulfilling all the requirements and providing the necessary documents. The embassy requested an interview, and when I arrived, I was denied direct access to any responsible officer. Instead, a security guard took my passport, went inside, and returned after 10 minutes saying that the visa officer refused to issue the DTV without offering any valid reason.

Instead, they decided to issue me a 6-month multiple-entry tourist visa, which is not the type of visa I applied and paid for. No explanation was given, no document was flagged, and I wasn’t allowed to discuss or understand the reason behind their decision.

This behavior is unprofessional, unfair, and completely disregards transparency and respect for applicants. It’s unacceptable to change the visa type without justification, especially after I followed all the procedures and paid the required fees.

I urge the relevant authorities and the Thai Embassy to take accountability for their actions and address this issue. This kind of treatment undermines trust and respect for such institutions.

I tried to find a way to fill a complaint about what happened at the Thai Embassy in Egypt to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affaires in Thailand

Any help?

"Thank you all for your replies and advice! Just to share a bit more about my travel history, my passport is filled with stamps from around 30 countries from all over the world. I also hold a valid 5-year Schengen visa and have visited Thailand more than 7 times, the bank statement balance more than what they requested, that's why I don't understand why they did that !!, Your input means a lot to me!"

And did you maybe do something „wrong“ in one of the last visits and they reported it?

Which category did you apply ie Workaytion or Soft Power and if Soft Power then what were you learning? Was it a local hire deal with your application ie an Egyptian or was it a MFA officer ie a Thai?

Strange. If I was yiu I would apply in a country close ti Thailand such as Vietnam or Cambodia. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Fly to a better embassy then, pretty simple.

You do realise this is a bad idea, right? Unless you are planning to not come to Thailand ever again.

I guess they had their reasons and more so, they are not obliged to disclose their reasons at all.

Sorry mate but that's just Thailand doing typical Thai things. I lived five years in Thailand. In Asian culture, the authority figure or senior makes a decision and you are expected to comply. As guests in the country, we are always juniors to the authorities.

Bro you have an Egyptian passport 😂 what do you expect? Red carpet and koshari?
Wannikea *********
sorry this happened and they don't have to give a reason. Honestly why would you apply in a country with almost zero history with DTV when hundreds of successful applications have been detailed and catalogued in southeast Asian consulates?
Mo ******
I suggest you go to Thailand, enjoy, and then go ask in the neighboring countries if you can.

Unfortunately any embassy including Egyptian embassies abroad can deny visa with no justification whatsoever.

My country France is even the worst regarding the practice. And of course they keep the money. Thailand is very nice in comparison.

Keep it up and work the problem around, you will make it! You already have all documents ready, you are all set. Thai embassy in Egypt was a training 💪

Be happy you got a 6 month visa. Getting a visa is a privilege not a right

You are right but they did that just because Iam Egyptian, no other reason 🥹

@Dan ******
mate he paid 10k baht for a DTV and got a visa that is only supposed to cost 2k
Mark *******
@Sam *****
alternatively, they could have denied him and gave him nothing, and he would have paid 10k baht for nothing. Something, my friend, is greater than nothing.

@Sam *****
The visa fee is for the processing. Not the actual fee. They processed the application and it was refused.

6 months tourist visa 5000 bath

@Sam *****
you are right, but it’s another country, you have 2 options, accept or leave

@Alex ******
Sure, but that's a different thing than "being happy" that he paid 10k for a tourist visa. Nobody would be happy about that.

Sorry to hear that bro. I have a friend from Pakistan who I’m helping to get a DTV visa. He could apply at the Thai Embassy in Pakistan, but he told me he doesn’t trust locals to do the right job, so he will travel to another South East Asian country and apply there. You could do the same. If you go to Jakarta, Indonesia, and apply there, you can be pretty sure that, if you submit the right documents, you’ll get your DTV visa.

This is standard practice in Embassies across the world. The Consular Officer does not have to meet you or explain his decision. It is unfortunate but happens every day.
