What should I do if the Thai embassy requests additional documents for my DTV visa application?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi everyone,

I applied for the DTV visa through the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and ran into something quite unexpected.

I submitted my application with all the documents that were originally listed in the official DTV requirements. However, after submission the system is now asking me to upload 7 additional documents.

Some of these are extremely difficult (and in my case even impossible) to provide. This is quite frustrating, because if I had known beforehand that these documents would be required, I might not have applied in the first place and could have saved the 350 € application fee.

Anyways, for now, my plan is to upload the documents I do have, and for the ones that are not applicable to my situation provide short explanation PDFs.

Has anyone applying through KL experienced something similar?

If so, did the embassy accept explanations for these items, or did they insist on the exact documents?

I would really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences.

Update:

My application got approved (total processing time: 12 days). 🥳

I submitted all the documents I had and provided short explanation PDFs for the documents that were not possible in my situation (e.g. embassy authentication, long-term lease), as I’m operating an international business across different jurisdictions.

That approach was accepted without any issues. So thanks to everyone who shared helpful input, it really kept me going, I appreciate it!

And for anyone currently in a similar situation: I know how frustrating it can feel, but in my case, providing clear explanations really helped.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster applied for a DTV visa through the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur but was unexpectedly asked to provide additional documents after submission. Frustrated by the extra requirements, they shared their experience and sought advice on whether others had faced similar issues. After receiving helpful responses from the community, they decided to upload the documents they could provide and included explanatory PDF files for those that were not applicable, which resulted in their application being approved after 12 days. Many commenters shared their own experiences and frustrations with the document requirements, suggesting that the KL embassy is particularly demanding and often requests documents that may not be applicable to the applicant's situation.

I had the same requested documents so you must authenticate the business license of the company you work with along with your work contract at the chamber of comerce where the company located and also in the MFA of that country, you can do that online through any notary in that country

Nm 7 you can call this agency located in chang Mai you can pay one month rent fee arround 120 EUR and you get an official lease contract (+66617903030).

I was asked for all of the same items Last month. Applying from USA.

Business owners are asked for a lot of proof. So yes it’s needed.

Basic registration pdf from your state should be easy to obtain. In Ga we pay each year to register.

I had to send 1-7 as required above all in PDF format.

Total time 3 weeks from Washington Dc.

Hey! I got my DTV a few days ago and was missing one of the documents -- what I did was provide and explanation and relevant proofs. I did not do it in KLCC though. 💪💪 wish you the best!

Don't be upset. Just do one by one . For me they asked me 2 time . Take 10 days. Documents checking only take time. After you provide the format they want, next all step approved in 3 hours. Keep patient. All embassy are same. Take time

I ran into a similar issue with Non immigrant O Visa for my child. They kept requesting crazy documents that were completely unrelated to my visa type or his. I created a formal word document, titled “Declaration of Inapplicability” and used official language to explain that whatever document was unrelated, could not be provided, etc aligned with outlined Thai immigration policy. I submitted it in each respective section and they accepted each. Maybe you could try that. Hope it helps!

I like how you have to sign a lease before even being granted a visa. Has anyone in the embassy thought this through?

I used a step by step guide that had letter templates and checklists for workcation application, that made it really easy to go through the process, and it was very affordable.

I estimate it saved me about 10 hours of my time!

Got my visa in 4 business days.

PM me and I can share the link with you!

Every country and someone's city has its own DTV requirements. Seems you unfortunately chose the most difficult option. As someone else said, research and apply again from another country.

I have been there where you are. Its actually not that hard to get these documents authenticated. I contacted my employer and they organised me the documents within 1 day. The cost for it was reasonable.

I didn't go through KL but I was requested for documents I don't have.

I provided a description and reasons why I was unable to provide those documents being requested as they weren't applicable to my scenario.

Remember the people processing these don't have in-depth knowledge about business structures for your home country.

Every day I see these requests and how deep they go, I totally appreciate everyone at the New York Consulate for not turning the DTV application into a PHD Thesis.

I had a speed bump with NYC and spoke to a nice person there. Remote working has the toughest requirements. I can see why Tech Nomads avoid Thailand.

I have a workation DTV and my application flew through in 2 weeks with no requests for additional info. A real pleasure. But one thing I can say is I always filed for a tourist visa every time with the consulate. I can't remember do an entry without one

All standard requests for this embassy. Many people have posted about this on this page and therefore opted to go elsewhere to apply. Did you not look at this page before today?

Send to each section a pdf of what you can supply.

also each section include a note telling what you have and tell them why you cannot supply what they're asking for with explanation

They then hopefully pass your replies on to the consulor who might have a bit more common sense and go forward accordingly

1 and 7 are ridiculous things to ask for.

You're already providing pay slips and a contract, but they want to see a company registration, too?

And if you're applying for a visa to stay in a country, why would you already have a condo lease?

Thai embassies are run by the weirdest people in the world.

Pretty sure it is way worse the other way around, when Thai people have to apply for visa to Europe for example.

SunnyHamster3652 Thais need proof of a connection to their home (work contract, house ownership, children), enough money to support their trip and an itinerary.

I applied for my ex a while back and it took 6 days to get a Schengen visa for her with these documents and an in-person interview.

My point isn't that it's hard to get a DTV. It's that the embassies are asking for double or triple proof for the same purpose (i.e. work contract AND business registration AND pay slips).

You must be new to this group. Most of us here know it's best to avoid KL embassy. To be fair though only number 7 is the most difficult. The others should be doable, although still a pain in the you-know-what.

you are supposed to apply at the embassy responsible for your country and if you are not expect some problems.

Sase Jaki you don't have to apply in your own country. I did not and very likely the majority in this forum do not. The DTV is made so you can apply worldwide.

If you still want a DTV issued from them. You MUST submit all the documents they requested. KL is probably the last place i would recommend people to apply DTV from.

UPDATE - I coincidentally got approved yesterday after 5 weeks. Throughout this time sent about 5 emails which were all unanswered. I had a friend email the higher ups on Sunday, March 8th. I was able to reach someone on the phone once yesterday morning, who told me to call back later in the day for an update when her colleague returned. Of course, the phones were disconnected by the time that I was told to call back (2pm) and none of my 10 call attempts even rang. Asked a friend to call in case I was blocked for some reason, and they got an automated message of unavailability. After sending my 7th email with an altered subject (DTV APPLICATION NOT APPROVED SINCE
***
- UPCOMING FLIGHT), I got my approval email 4 hours later. Glad I finally got approved but the process was ridiculous. For all I know, the escalation was the only reason that it happened.
