Booked our flights and paid for rooms but problem is we will be 62 days in Thailand starting Jan 5. So I need a visa for 62 days. What do you suggest plus when would I apply. Any info would be very much appreciated. We are from Canada
Answer summary
For a 62-day stay in Thailand, Canadians can opt for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV), which allows for a 60-day stay that can be extended for an additional 30 days while in Thailand. Applying for this visa can be done through the Thai embassy in Canada, preferably 4 to 8 weeks before departure. Alternatively, travelers can explore a short trip outside Thailand to reset their visa stay or simply pay for the two-day overstay upon leaving without complications. It's also crucial to ensure all documentation, such as a TM30 visa extension form and proof of onward travel, is in order to avoid any issues.

Apply digital for 60 day at your thai embassy and pay when you leave Thailand the 2 day overstay. 1000 Baht each

If your flight lands here say 1100 at night linger around before going to immigration then you get stamped in on the next day

How old are You? Do You qualify for 90 Day Non-O visa? If not option 1 get 60 day SETV single entry tourist visa and change your return flight. Option 2 get METV multiple entry tourist visa good for 6 months, somewhere in your 62 days take a couple of days and go visit Laos or Vietnam or another Country get stamped out of Thailand and stamped back in your 60 day entry will reset. Option 3 get 60 day tourist visa hope the airline let's you board and hope immigration gives you 30 day extension. And Option 4 get 60 day visa stay 62 days and pay the overstay fine. Hope you don't get stopped for anything during the 2 overstay days. That's about it. Best option if you can afford it get the METV and enjoy seeing another Country for a couple of days. Second SETV and change return flight. The 30 day extension or 2 day overstay are risky.

Apply for a 60 day visa from the Thai embassy in Canada. This can be easily done online and then go to an immigration office in person whilst you are in Thailand and pay for a 30 day extension. You will need to provide a TM30 for this which can be obtained through your hotel. You will also need a copy of your passport, entry stamp, a photo and form but this can usually be done at immigration or nearby.

Or just pay the small overstay charge. You're not going to jail.

SETV

One of your extra days will be taken up getting organised for your extension

The 2nd one will be taken up in the Immigration office

The 3rd one will be when they reject you for missing a detail on a form

Add the stress

So you wont have 60 days holi days you thought

It’s pretty simple

Why would you book 62 days when you can only have 60 days?

You will have to apply for an extension of 30 days on your 60 days and hope you do get

It will cost you money

Or do the smart thing and come back three days early
Dave ***********
Dave ***********
Don Craig nobody says you can only have 60!! They could possibly get a Non O good for 90 days!!

Tourist visa. 60 days then plus 30 days extension.

No one advises over staying because if you only pay fines for overstaying 2 days at the airport, being caught overstaying before getting to the airport, will have you being detained. Not funny.

Why do people always push to the end of the rope? It's ok to schedule you're departure dates a few days earlier. You won't need to deal with these stupid issues.

Just book a small side trip in the middle of your 62 days. Go see Angkor Wat for 3-4 days. Pop to Singapore for a weekend. This will cut the 2-3 needed days off your total time in thailand and give you the exit flight immigration is looking for. Save the visa cost and the extension fees and use it towards a mini adventure. This will change your itinerary to visa exempt entry. Staying under 30 days. (using your weekend away ticket as your planned exit.) Weekend away to a direct flight neighbouring country. And enter again visa exempt staying under 30 days (using your original round trip ticket to Canada as your exit). Easy and fun. No need to worry

Take a short trip mid-way to Malaysia or Laos for 3-4 days. Flights are very cheap and less aggravation than applying for visa and going to local immigration to extend it

According to the Thai Embassy London website A single-entry Thailand Non-Immigrant visa provides a validity of 3 months to enter the country and permits a stay of up to 90 days from your arrival. £60. Has this changed?
CoolBun*******
CoolBun*******
David Drinkell I think you need to have another look. The initial permit to stay is 60 days, which can be extended, at immigration, by a further 30 days.

Not 90 on entry.

I know as I entered last week on a 60 tourist visa.

A Single-Entry Tourist Visa (TR) grants you a maximum stay of 60 days upon arrival, and you can extend this at immigration in Thailand for an additional 30 days. I assume you already knew that a 60-day visa exempt would be too short for 60+ days, at the time that it was still sixty days.

The best time to apply for the Single-Entry Tourist Visa (TR) is 4 to 8 weeks before your planned departure to Thailand.

Or as other people write: pay the overstay at airport, but remember that if you are caught by police anywhere in the country with even a single day of overstay before reaching the airport immigration desk for whatever reason, you can face a mandatory 5-year re-entry ban plus jail time before deportation…

Which exact time are you landing in BKK and are you leaving to your homecountry?
Nico ********
Nico ********
And if you choose the last option, namely "extending your stay or overstaying," buy a "cheap disposable" ticket for your next trip before departure to Thailand, because the airline in Canada has the right to refuse you boarding..

You will be denied, untill all you hotel/housing accommodations account for an accepted time period of 60 days or less.

1. Change bookings, uncluding roundtrips tickets because these exact verifiable items are required uploads along with other documents you'll need for your 60 day visa online app.

Yes you can extend 30 days once you are in.country but it might not be worth it for 2 days, maybe for 10 or more days, but you'll need to account for every night.

Apply about 8 weeks before your flight out.

...I made my flight out for 26OCT...

I applied[(uSA,Chicago,Thai.on-line) on 30 AUG.

I received an eVisa60-dayTourist on 4SEP.

I have 90 days (until 2DEC) to enter Thailand.

Upon entry I have a 60 day(to 26DEC) stay which (on 2JAN) I'll extend 30 more, then change my return flight for 25JAN.

Bonnie Roesler why not apply for a non-o (retirement) visa which will grant you 90 days given you can fulfill the requirements?

Otherwise, apply for a tourist visa and buy a cheap onward flight which you can forfeit later. Then you could a) apply for an extension to cover the remaining two days or b) go with a little risk and pay the fine for the two days overstay.
Mayqwan *****

BC ********

@Mayqwan ****
The rules only changed for visa exempt entry, meaning the time you are allowed without any visa.

The rules to enter WITH a visa haven't changed.

In this case they will have to apply for a single entry tourist visa which gives 60 days (day of entry = day 1) and can be extended in Thailand for another 30 days.
