Hi guys!

I will flight to Bangkok at December, 4th. I come from Germany and I want to do Backpacking there.

1. First I thought I want to apply for a tourist visa, but I have a lot of insecurity how I can apply for the 60 days if I can’t give proof of accommodations. I want to decide spontaneous. Is it in my case possible to get a touri visa without proofing accommodation for the whole 60 days? πŸ˜…

2. I know that I getting otherwise 45 days with possible extensions of 30 days. But I just don’t want to have worry about it. Could I just make an appointment as soon as I am arriving in Bangkok an make an appointment? How many days I have to be left that I can extend it?

3. Because I want to stay longer in Thailand 45 days plus 30 days or 60 days plus a few days. Do I have to show a proof on December, 4th that I will leave the country during the 45 days?

Thank you so much for all your support!!!πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ I really appreciate it to be here in the group.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user from Germany is asking about applying for a tourist visa and the requirements for accommodation proof, as they plan to backpack in Thailand starting on December 4th. They are concerned about obtaining a 60-day visa without having pre-booked accommodations, and they question if they can extend their stay easily upon arrival. Comments suggest that entering Thailand on a visa exemption provides 45 days with a potential 30-day extension, and while proof of onward travel is usually necessary, it may not be required for the extension. The discussion highlights different procedures and requirements from Thai embassies, emphasizing the importance of checking specific visa requirements.

and I think
@Nina *******
has her choices outlined.

Good luck with it IF you apply for a tourist visa, and if you come in visa exempt good luck with that too

I'm curious. Did your embassy specifically ask for proof of accommodation for your ENTIRE stay in Thailand, when you were looking into getting the tourist visa or did they just ask for proof of accommodation?

@Eze *******
sadly some Thai Embassy or Consulate are asking for bookings for the entire time in Thailand. So one has to find a workaround.

Thanks
@James *******
That's really unfortunate.

Do you need to show onward travel again when you apply for the extra 30 days ?

no you don't show onward travel when you get the 30 day extension from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

As James stated the 45 day + 30 day extension seems like the simplest and best solution for you. From personal experience the 30 day extension is very easy to obtain.

Good luck and enjoy!

You have to provide what the Thai Embassy in Germany requires as other countries can be different

This is a list of common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay...

Simply enter Thailand VISA EXEMPT.... gets you 45 days stamp plus one 30 day extension of stay from local Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht. That gives you 75 days to backpack πŸŽ’ Thailand.

To stay longer will need a BORDER BOUNCE... to a neighbor SE Asia country (🚫 Not Myanmar as their borders are CLOSED to foreigners).

You are ALLOWED two LAND BORDER BOUNCE ENTRIES into Thailand EACH calendar year.

AND be prepared to show PROOF of your departure from Thailand within the 45 days of your arrival into Thailand...your airline may ask to see it. ASK them.

AND if you are in Bangkok you can apply for the 30 days extension of stay soon after your arrival into Thailand. The Thai Immigration office for your 30 day extension is at ITSquare in Bangkok

Enjoy your trip to Thailand... safe travels

@Veep ******
The 45 days Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand is for entry thru March 31 2023... then it reverts to the normal 30 day stamp.

@Veep ******
but do land border crossings into Thailand FROM Laos... do NOT 🚫 fly.
James ********
Then go to Savannakhet or Vientiane Laos and get a Thai tourist visa...60 +30 = 90 days.

@Veep ******
yep πŸ‘

@Veep ******
IF you are eligible for Visa EXEMPT you are stamped in for 45 days plus one 30 day extension of stay from local Thai immigration office for 1900 be Thai baht. = 75 days stay.

The BORDER BOUNCE can be done 2 times EACH calendar year.

@Veep ******
same day... and I suggest you have a border run service company take you to the border for crossing and return same day. They know what you need and which border to use based on your Passport and history of entry into Thailand.
