The first rule is just get there and get a 30 Days extend a month 1900 bht plus photo. Then go back Home after a long 2 months to recover recover from ur late nights.

Then take it from there. If you really want to return You can simply repeat and return or then go an agent if you wish to stay.

Agents are great and just definitely worth the money.

You cannot take Thailand serious. You are surrounded for visa runs by Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam or have a rest in Singapore and return. It's like the bar in Phuket has a sign men let your women go shopping and you sit here and drink cold piss. 😃

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses practical strategies for expats looking to stay in Thailand longer. It suggests obtaining a 30-day extension upon arrival for 1,900 THB, along with additional options like border runs to neighboring countries (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam) for visa renewals. There is a debate over the necessity of using visa agents, highlighting experiences of users split between handling the process independently and hiring agents for convenience. The recurring theme indicates a casual and playful attitude towards navigating Thailand's immigrant regulations, with numerous comments reflecting different personal experiences and humorous takes on the complexities of living as an expat in Thailand.

If u can't afford 1900 bht for 60 days well. If u can't afford an agent be prepared a lot of hassles. With the 30 day n 30 day ext no insurance requirements just use ur card travel insurance. U travel when u want n not got a Thai visa has to coincide and use by dates etc. In my case Im a Thai wife so respect their culture but not the ever changing rules n tax n open hostility by Govt to farangs wanting to stay there I have seen over the past 25 years.

Im never out the place last 25 years had business the lot but I ensure my life left is not battling a foreign system. In this case I will let the agents do it and sit in the cold beer bar n relax

Never ever get an agent with a farang anything to do with them.

He's driftwood. The Thai agents are the ones speak the language n read it being key. I use a lady in Phk just a little shop she has n she brilliant when bringing Thai family on visits to oz even has the oz embassy contacts. It wasn't expensive at all to use her n she never fails to deliver.

As for doing it urself some just like to stand in lines in sun.

I got my wife Thai and passport and oz marriage visa from oz embassy in a one day visit to Phuket by agent but this was a long time ago. For me i think the 60 days are fine and people just get involved in all the idiosyncratic beuracracy of the fact that like banks one won't open an account the next one will. One immigration officer just decides different to all others.

All im saying. The good life can be had by purchase a Flexi ticket so u can change dates n travel when u like no dictates of a visa get full refund return portion to get over the onward ticket rule. Ur credit card insurance then covers u as long as u have a return ticket before leaving for 6 months.

Have the 60 days n then 30 days if u like it. That's 90 days easy as.

U allowed 2 border crossing a year but as many flights as u like.

Then if u meet or find what ur looking for. Only then go for it.

Stats are only 5% farangs retire Thailand are still there n most go home broke n having being robbed buying businesses you can never make money from Thailand ok. U always go bust

Im just saying nobody is right or wrong and each to their own.

But im very happy the last 25 yrs doing it my way. Also don't even think of selling up n going forever to land of smiles unless you lived there a year. Also i am very respectful of culture etc. I do everything correct. Im not the one looking every loophole. The thais get sick of it. So ok i will change it to if you have the money for the luxury of a Thai agent they have never failed me.

I been 4 times in past year n off again for 60 days in the quiet period get my hotel

Thanks for the comprehensive and kindly personal response. I find it very helpful.. I will look for an agent in Khon Kaen who is Thai. Blessings to you sir.

You do not need a agent unless you are void of common sense and happy to give your money away

You do need a Thai a(no farang there at all) agent if you want it easy. Some like the challenge of standing around hours in sun and too many are disappointed

Each to their own.
Heather *******
@Chas *******
a challenge! Maybe for you, you poor thing! All you need to do is go to immigration and ask for their list of requirements and follow it through. Not difficult and certainly not standing around in the sun for hours unless of course you go there without getting your paperwork in order

What I don't understand is you identified THE MOST EXPENSIVE ways to stay in Thailand (30 day and extension...or agents which are often illegal). While getting an appropriate visa for the appropriate reasons is considered Thailand is not serious or bad?

By all means, I'm not going to get on a soapbox and preach everything in Thailand makes sense (especially to entitled westerners)......but, respect the local culture, these are good people....or just go home. 👍

No my way is all 100% correct. Nothing illegal at all in 25 years of Phuket.1900 bht to get 60 days is not expensive at all its peanuts.
Brian *********
@Chas *******
the illegal I was referring to is MANY so called agents, which I stated pretty clearly.

So based on your detail lacking visa process, I can only assume the use of an exempt stamp and extension, maybe a tourist visa. This suggests a border run of some sort which will have an expense (1900 just to get into Laos as an example), travel expenses and other time and materials.

Calling something ‘not expensive’ vs ‘least or most expensive’ are two entirely different qualifiers.

What is not expensive to you is potentially expensive to some else.

What is most or least expensive is relatable by anyone.

Phuket…not shocking there. Hopefully you’ve taken the opportunity to visit the real Thailand, not the made for tourists Disney version. 👍

I just tell people the only rule is get there and visit this amazing Country. With an easy simple 60 days.Then if they love it learn what suits them. I said for me 30 plus 30 2k bht is fine

I'm all over Thailand 25 years as work Vietnam. Thailand is my R &R and I love Phuket thanks a lot.

@Boonlert *****

Boom ******
@Steve *********
Agent is not legal or what ?
Steve **********
@Boonlert *****
Follow rules set out by Thailand Immigration.

It's quite specific and simple.

You either qualify, or you don't.

If you qualify, you don't need an agent.

If you don't qualify.... ..!

What was your Q ?
Boom ******
@Steve *********
Some FARANG find the visa process really complicated. Then, agent (legal one) makes your work becomes by far the easiest, compared to DIY. Do you agree with this ?
Steve **********
@Boonlert *****
it's up to the individual, if it's complicated for some , and I understand.

There are English speaking volunteers at ever immig office to assist.

If that's undesirable, ask an IO for a recommendation for agent.

It's like Real Estste. Amd Insur Agents:

Their livelihood depends on your idleness
Boom ******
@Steve *********
I have seen a lot of FARANGs , who tryna do their 90-day report, go back to their home due to lacking of papers. Moreover, FARANGs go home with doubt due to the IO's language problem and hand sign does not make any sense clearly.
Boom ******
@Steve *********
I think all IOs and Volunteers cannot help 100% every FARANG out. Their job must flown continuously and it is hard for them to stop at individual.

Have you ever been to IMM headquarter (chaengwattana) yet?

Have you seen how long the que is ?

Have you seen how many people gather around there inside the office ?
Steve **********
@Boonlert *****
Nope, got my 1st in Bkk, the last 20 in CM.

2 yrs during Covid, used agent rather then stand in crowd, but since Qual under IO, was cheap vs risk. Not knocking ' real agents ' but only if needed and you've done a due- duligence
Boom ******
@Steve *********
ok let me summarize. If you can sacrifice your resource, yeah go do it yourself. However, if you have money and you time is essence, yeah hire an agent (the legal one)
Lyndon ************
@Boonlert *****
I used Chiang Wattana IO in Bangkok. Yes it's huge, but it was very efficient and well organised. I was normally seen within minutes of my appointment time and out in less than an hour. No agent needed, it would probably take a similar amount of time and effort but be paying much more.
Steve **********
@Boonlert *****
people that say " let me summarize " are really saying ' let me put your words into mine,'.

No summary needed, I use just those words needed for my response.

* Have you an agenda to this foolishness ?

How can you take seriously a country where pornography and prostitution are illegal, and they have the biggest red-light district in the world😂

When even short-term rental in condos is strictly illegal but then nobody cares
Nick **********
@Marta ******
Because it is a seriously great place to live. No overbearing big brother government, Thais are generally not caught up in political positions and probably lead a less intrusive lifestyle than Western countries. We were all born autonomus,(real freedom), then slowly, but then faster, we allow others to control us and dictate what is best for us.

Pornography and prostitution has always been part of human existence, so to each, his or her own.

P S. I do not go to bars or buy prostitutes, however, it is not up to me to be a moral judge.

You literally answered the question I didn't ask haha. I am in Costa Rica right now and have been border crossing forever. I heard Thailand is stricter and may limit you to two crossings before sendidng you packing. Is this correct. I have to add I am an ESL teacher and plan on getting a work permit, but still curious.
Jeff ******
@Brian ******
Pura Vida! 🤙 I’ve been to Costa Rica several times and thought about living there, until I went to Thailand. Only upside to Costa Rica is it’s a shorter flight from the US. Everything about Thailand is better than Costa Rica…in my opinion.

I would have to agree with this 100%. I’ve been to both places eight or 10 times.

yep! There’s just more to see & do in Thailand, more variety in food, it’s more developed than Costa Rica, the roads are paved (unlike Costa Rica), it’s safer and less corrupt, it’s more affordable. I could go on and on…

2 land border entries per calander year WITHOUT a visa.
Ken ***********
@Brian ******
two land crossings within calendar year. No stated limit by air, but expect questions about why you trave so often to Thailand without a long term visa.
Pui *****
@Brian ******
only two entries by land are allowed per year without visa. No official limit on number of air entries per year.
Steve *******
@Pui ****
That's only without a visa. As many entries by land per calender year as you want with a visa.
Pui *****
@Steve ******
you're correct, sorry, I thought I had typed that in my comment. Left it out accidentally, and will revise.
Brian *******
@Pui ****
Sweet! Thank you. Is there an amount of time you have to be out of country?
James *********
@Brian ******
if you have never been to Southeast Asia before… I would not worry about this… Because you want to spend more time in the neighboring countries. Laos, Malaysia,Cambodia… And especially Vietnam are such great places to visit.

flights are quick and cheap .

My recent visits to Thailand have been two or three months… So I make the boarding visits part of my plan.
Brian *******
@James ********
Thank you brother. Like I said, it hopefully won't be an issue with a teaching position. I am very excited to visit the neighboring countries. Yeah, I am reading great things about Vietnam. I am very much looking forward to Malaysia as well.
Pui *****
@Brian ******
no official time. But every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer, and you can't expect to keep using visa exempt entries or tourist visas as a way to live in Thailand long term. Even spending several months away isn't enough to ensure entry, as your previous stay and entry history will all be considered.
Brian *******
@Pui ****
Thank you, you have been very helpful.

I have literally dipped one toe in Cambodia on a border run… Turned around and walked straight back to the Thai immigration to return. This was at the Surin crossing… Which seemed pretty much completely open with kids running in between the two countries. My gf and her friend, walked from Thailand to Cambodia and back to Thailand with me, no papers shown for them 🤣🤣🤣.
Brian *******
Man, that sounds like the Nicaragua/Costa Rica border. Complete anarchy. Homeless people, stray dogs.....thanks you.
Karim ***************
@Brian ******
Yep. You should have seen the Poipet crossing about 15 years ago… Mothers puttin their kids on to you. A no man’s land in between the two countries with a couple of, not legit casinos… and armed kids on push bikes riding around at night… I got stuck in that no man’s land for a night 🤣 Those were the days
Brian *******
@Karim **************
Hey I forgot to ask, is the rainy season there monsoon like Krabi or tropical savanah like Hua Hin. People seem to love HH but I hear it's too built up and over run with expats.
Karim ***************
@Brian ******
If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience, you can still get it in any of the tourist focused or built up locations. The north east, where the border crossings are, weather is hot right now. When rainy season comes, it isn’t too drastic and never really stops anything. My personal preferred areas are, Chiang Mai and Isaan area, Surin to Udon and everything in between.
Brian *******
and can you explain what you mean by agent and what they do? Thanks man.

ok
