TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the complexities and considerations for Australians wishing to open a joint bank account with their Thai partners. The key points include the importance of understanding how a joint account may affect visa applications, particularly the financial requirements needed for both Australian and Thai visas. Several users advise against opening a joint account specifically for visa purposes, suggesting that an individual account may be more beneficial for maintaining the required funds. Suggestions include having separate individual accounts to satisfy Thai visa requirements and a joint account setup for the Australian visa. Users also emphasize caution and recommend verifying available banking options in Thailand.

You need a Thai proof of residence. KBank will do it. But only one account holder can access via online Chanel.

A joint account will not help with your future visa application. It will mean that you would have to show twice the required amount as it is understood that only 50% of the monies contained are yours and the other 50% belong to your partner, regardless of who banked the money when proof of funds are required at visa time.
. Where does he say that.? A joint bank account isn't requires for a Thai spouse visa. It is for an Australian spouse visa.

He answered someone who asked, he wants a visa to move from Australia to Thailand for him. So I'm assuming he wants the bank account to support that, which he will need.
i would open up your individual Thai bank account (not joint) and season as required, 400k/800k bht to obtain Thai visa and maintain as per the directive to get future extensions. Open a second, joint account and fund seperatly to satisfy the Australian requirement. Never a good idea to use a joint one for Thai visa, as you need twice as much maintained, and if the other party 'accidently' reduces your balance even 1bht below the required amount in the qualifying periods you can kiss goodbye to your next extension.

Just go to your bank with her and open.
I assume you have an existing account.
But be VERY,VERY,VERY careful. 99 out of 100 if there a bit more that shopping money, it's bye.
then don't get a joint account with any thai person

Married , girlfriend or just friends? What kind of visa do you have?

Each bank makes up their own rules. I tried 3 banks before I was lucky enough to open up one with Bangkok Bank. Only because Immigration gave me a letter notifying the bank I was applying for a Non O based on marraige. Some other people are lucky and able to get one on a regular tourist visa. All you can do is try and if not successful use an Agent to open one for you. Good luck.
my girlfriend is Thai, and if I choose to move to Thailand....this is why I'm asking, and also which Visa would be the most appropriate moving from Australia to Thailand?
yes okay. I doubt you will be able to get a joint account unless you are married as it is very hard to open accounts now for many people. If you are over 50 you can apply for a retirement visa.
bangkok bank is the easiest. However do not bother with a joint account. Have your own. You will need a TM30 or a marriage license (this can vary based on bank branch), passport copy
