TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, a foreigner can open a joint bank account with a Thai person in Thailand. However, many participants in the discussion express concerns about the potential risks involved, such as lack of trust or financial exploitation. They recommend caution and suggest alternative banking arrangements, such as keeping separate accounts and using instant transfers, to mitigate risks. There are also differing opinions on whether a joint account is necessary for visa financial requirements.

I have an American neighbour who has a Thai wife & they had a joint bank account with his American pension being paid directly into it.
Her family and friends were always asking her for loans (some were paid back & some weren’t).
Another Thai made an allegation of serious assault against his wife & she was arrested and jailed whilst police investigated the incident and the bank account was frozen for the duration of the investigation & trial, because her name was on the joint account. This meant that he no longer had access to any money from their only Thai bank account, yet his pension was still being paid into it. She was later found not guilty and the bank account was unfrozen again. They now have separate bank accounts and instantly transfer between then as required.

You can open an account without a Thai person.. Just pay 6000 baht for travel insurance from the bank beside tesco and they give you an account
You do not need a thai person to open bank account. Use BKK Bank or K bank. Former is easy.
NEVER open a bank account with someone else... a Joint Account... always keep things like that separate from others (credit cards also!) no matter what country you are in or what nationality the other person is. Joint accounts are never a good idea!
You can. But you put your Thai partner in big trouble. Because all friends and relatives will ask your partner to help out with a "loan" immediately. And "no" is no answer to such requests 🤔
He didn't mention with whom he wanted to open the account.

Most of the guys who post on here have been burnt by their ex Soi 6 bar girlfriends hence so many negative replys.....in fact how they accumulated money in the first place to lose it beats me.
I've got one with my girl for house, car and food expenses (added value when she requested Schengen, US and Canadian visas) and one with my business partner to put the shop profit. I have my own account as well of course.
Not sure that was called for? Just stating the obvious!!
I have a Thai Bank account & a joint bank account with my wife!
Have a nice day 😃

While not all thai(or from anywhere) women will sell your socks shoes and blood, there are a few good ones out there. At the same time when it comes to cash...

Don’t listen to all these naysayers with their negativity. If you go to Soi 3 Sukhumvit in Bangkok with your passport and cash you will find any number of beautiful and charming individuals willing to help you. Best of luck.

It satifies my immigration for ret. Visa

Retirement visa $$ has to be in an account your name only
Why would you want to do this? Certainly it won’t satisfy immigration financial requirements for retirement visa. The Thai person can use your bank card if you give her your pin. That is the safest way.

Yes

Yes you can and you can have it set so that both you and the Thai have to sign in order to make withdrawals. This type of account is useful if for example you have a half Thai child and want to save in a bank account for them even though they are not old enough to hold the account themselves

Steady there tiger. Just open two separate accounts. Money transfer is instantaneous these days so no need for joint accounts.

Aww! Maybe I need to reconsider joint bank account. I asked because I have seen worse case scenario from a bank side. If the account holder died, it’s very hard to retrieve the funds out of the deceased’s account. The bank will try to hold it as long as possible. Even your next to kin can’t get it easily.
Maybe the best solution is to get an ATM code out of your loved one.
if you unfortunately pass away then your partner will survive without your money. Don’t worry. Most people have their money in their home country anyway.

A joint bank account with a Thai means you depositing the money & them withdrawing it immediately…
You ARE offended because you called him racist... all people that are offended use that word in defence, because that's all you have. You must be offended because you can't let it go...
