Hello everyone,

I’m Canadian. I want to apply for my DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) as an online tutor. My embassy is the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa. Have any of you had experience with this embassy?

I’m wondering if it’s safer or faster to go directly to Ottawa to apply in person or if I should do it online. I’d like to get my visa as quickly and smoothly as possible.

I don’t have an employment contract or anything like that. I want to start as an online tutor (teaching languages). Is there a minimum salary requirement to show, and if so, for how long? I have the necessary funds (500,000 THB) in my account, but I’m worried about the job proof requirements. My client base isn’t stable yet - I’m still building it.

Thank you for your help - I really appreciate it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian expat is seeking advice on applying for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) to work as an online tutor in Thailand. They are considering whether to apply in person at the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa or online, and are concerned about job proof and income requirements. Community responses indicate that visa applications for Canada are solely online and suggest that while no minimum income is necessary, having a few months of regular client income would strengthen the application. Additionally, it's recommended to review specific embassy requirements and to utilize teaching agreements if possible.

I did Ottawa online for my online work. I have plenty of clients all in Canada so it was easy to show letters from them and payments for the last 6 months coming in from only Canadian sources. It took about a week to be approved. I recommend you get a few months in with regular clients. It doesn't have to be too much income, but has to be clear that you are doing what you say you do. Best of luck.

if you are going submit a DTV E–Visa application or any Thai E–Visa application anytime soon, then note the following Public Holidays during July 2025 for Thai Embassy in Ottawa and the same for the Thai Consulate in Vancouver

Unfortunately, the websites and Facebook Pages of both the Thai Embassy in Ottawa and Thai Consulate in Vancouver are not updated with the pertinent information for specific details about applying for a Thai DTV E–Visa in Canada (sorely lacking detailed info), but don't bother going in-person to any Thai Embassy/Consulate about submitting a Thai DTV E–Visa Application (n.b. there is 1 rare exception in the world) as everything is done via the Thai eVisa website

as it stands now you will not meet the requirements for the DTV to work remotely in Thailand. You don't seem to have any documentation whatsoever to prove you have a legitimate business. At the very least do you have a business license?

I don't have a business license because I work for a tutoring plateform?

It you search in the group for Canada or even Ottawa you'll see a few comments. We applied through Vancouver but that was last July and a lot has changed since then.

Vancouver consulate was great to deal with, helpful and responsive. When we applied at the end of July, my husband, main DTV holder, was approved in a couple of hours. My dependant was less then 24 hrs.

If you have your own students, you can create a contract. Online platforms usually have a teaching agreement which you can submit. No minimum income is required.

Every Thai embassy on earth is online.

You sound completely unprepared. Go soft power scheme.

ha. Someone from Latin America came at TAT event about DTV and complained about this ☝️ point

Those who wish to apply for the DTV visa must read the website of the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country where the application is to be submitted to get the correct requirements for it.

why would you answer a post being rude like that? I don't want to go soft power because I want to work and I won't be able to work online on soft power

that's a helpful reply from a forum member known for his sound advice.

no South America is on site as far as I know

I looked at Brazil...

No, the Thai Embassy in Brazil does not accept walk-in visa applications. All Thai visa applications must be submitted through the e-Visa portal. The embassy no longer accepts physical submission of documents or walk-in applications.

SAME for Chile

No, the Thai Embassy in Chile does not accept Thai visa applications in person. All visa applications must be submitted through the official Thai e-Visa portal. The embassy does not accept walk-in or drop-off applications for visa services according to the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles.

To apply for a Thai visa, you need to create an account and submit your application through the Thai e-Visa website. You will need to upload the necessary documents, including your passport's biodata page and a photo. Once approved, the e-Visa will be sent to you via email, which you should print and keep with your passport.

@Aud***
blunt. As I said you're unprepared, you have little idea of what can be done while on this visa.

I need help to understand this, this is why I've posted on this group. You can skip the post if it triggered you that much. I am just trying to get information to start the process.

@Aud***
suggest you read through successful posts, use group search tool keyword freelance. If you're going to teach English "information" is a mass noun, no need to add an s.

It did not sound so rude to me, relax.

There's no problem with applying through the soft power route and working online, earning foreign sourced income. There's even an embassy (Taipeh) that requires soft-power applicants to have regular, ongoing income.

It is a good point about Taipei. When i applied in person for my Workcation DTV there, a few SP applicants were turned away for not having proof of online Income.
Dnatjugweme ************
Hi Audrey,

Application is online only.

There is no minimum salary requirement, but apply through the soft power route (muay thai, Thai cooking school, etc.) if you think your freelancer profile isn't strong enough.

but I won't be able to work and my plan is to start working online

@Aud***
Sorry, I don't understand. Why would you not be able to work? As long as your income is not Thai sourced, there's no issue.

@Dnatjugweme ***********
oh I didn't know. I thought you can only work online on DTV - online work application. Are you saying we can work online on a soft power base?
Andi ***********
@Aud***
Yes, you can work online for non Thai firms on SP.
