Has anyone in here applied for the DTV from the washington dc embassy? When i was looking at the thailand website it says the amount of money needed in your account is set by the embassy but it’s so hard to get a response at the DC embassy. Me and my boyfriend are set to start our expat journey on November 3rd and our first stop is thailand however we are unsure what visa we would need to get! We are currently getting our TEFL and the program would be completed there but i’m getting mixed reviews on applying to teaching jobs before moving vs doing it after moving because of course visa concerns ! Could anyone direct me to a youtuber or a blog with better information ? I’ve been using reddit , national pages and the “Retired working for you “ youtube channel

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around applying for the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) from the Thai embassy in Washington DC, with emphasis on the financial requirements set by the embassy and difficulties in getting responses. The users share concerns about the best time to apply for teaching jobs in Thailand, highlighting that the DTV is primarily for online teaching to non-Thai students. For classroom teaching, a different visa (work visa and work permit) is needed. The comments suggest checking official embassy resources for accurate information rather than relying solely on social media.

You can’t teach in Thailand to to locals on the DTV. That requires a work visa and work permit. In order to be approved you need to show that you’rencurrently remote working and have certification of that.

All the information is on the washington DC site under the visa types. It is best to go by what the embassy says, rather than social media. The only video I can recommend is the one interview with a thai official. I'll link below.

If you plan to teach only online, then the DTV is the easiest option. Can only teach non Thai students. Teaching in the classroom in Thailand requires a different visa.
