TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian passport holder can enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa. However, for a longer stay of 3 months, it is advisable to apply for a tourist visa before arrival. A 6-month visa might also be an option if you plan to stay longer in future trips.

3 weeks no u get 30 days but if u want to stay longer on next trip get the 6 month visa sorry not sure which one i am sure someone else can elaborate further but friends of mine e from UK get it then have no issues here

It's better if you are able to come in on a visa otherwise you have leave and come back etc opposed to just applying for a 30 day extension.
