What are some options for accident and emergency travel insurance in Thailand for seniors with pre-existing medical conditions?

I'm traveling to Thailand for 89 days arriving 4 October.

Aged 75 with pre-existing medical conditions: diabetes type 2 and peripheral neuropathy. Fully understood that these conditions would be excluded. Just need cover for accident and emergencies.

Axa Sawadee have turned down my online application due to these pre-existing medical conditions. I have emailed them about this and waiting for a response.

Any suggestions? Have previously contacted some specialists but all say too old to quote.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks travel insurance for a 89-day stay in Thailand, facing challenges due to age (75) and pre-existing medical conditions (diabetes and peripheral neuropathy). AXA Sawadee denied coverage until further communication. Other commenters suggest looking for insurance from home countries, recommending specific companies like Saga and Staysure, sharing experiences with high costs and exclusions related to pre-existing conditions. There's also mention of the option for accident and critical illness cover and self-insurance as potential alternatives.

Can you get a 60 day visa waiver? Then get a 30 day extension? You can buy most meds in Thailand. No need for buying insurance, be self insured like me.

I'm in same situation but lot worse. No insurance will cover me.. No agent will help you.

If you have a fall they will say its your neauropathy .

If you have accidents they will find some way of blaming your health...

I have to self insured with my Super fund.. I'm 69

Western Company. There is no trust in Thai insurance companies. They are incredibly good at denying your claims. Hospital don’t trust either and often make you pay your bill and you have try to get reimbursed. Good luck with that, they know you are a tourist and that you will give up if they make it difficult to make claims. You have no rights here, no recourse and Thais just think you have money and because of this attitude you pay more.

Have you thought about just buying an accident and critical illness cover policy?? Most other things you could just self insure, where are you staying in Thailand?? I know a good insurance broker in Pattaya I use them myself, and lots of expats use them, it's a British fella that owns it, his Thai staff speak English, you could contact them for a quote, let me know if you want the details.

Stephen walker I live in Thailand, and i use them for medical insurance, they also sort my car and motorcycle insurance policies, I've just renewed with them again recently, send them an email to make enquiries first, if it sounds good, go to their office in Pattaya, and discuss your opinions, they will sort everything out for you. The first time I went to see them, I purchased a good 12 month accident insurance policy, I think it was ฿6500, I think you can buy a separate critical illness cover for a similar price, but I'm sure you're aware it very much depends on age and circumstances, my opinion is you should cover yourself for accident and critical illness at least if you can, they are the two things that would cost you a lot of money.

Get a travel insurance in your homecountry, since it may include repatriation and / or summon of relatives in case of severe illness / accident / dead.

...what sort of cover have you got and how high is the cost ? I'm curious as I'm retired mid 60s living in Thailand without insurance...and it's something that is a worry to me from what I'm hearing insurance is unafordable once you get into your 70s...obviously I have funds set aside for emergencies but ....

Your age is a big factor, and your pre-existing conditions, as they can be related to lots of different complications, resulting in not being covered if you were able to get insurance at your age.
