Hi my partner and I are planning on coming from uk to Thailand for 6 weeks early next year and have discovered our annual worldwide multitrip travel insurance will not cover us for over 31 days. We are both in our 70s and I have tried to see if we could get a single trip cover and that turned out to be £1100+. My question is I'm wondering if we could we just get medical cover from a thai insurance to cover us? Or any other ideas. Thanks in advance

Thailand government are apparently giving free insurance to tourists now.

Not sure what sort of coverage that involves.

We are also over 70 and had a similar experience. Finished up using our credit card insurance and as happens, my wife tripped and broke her ankle. The hospital bill and upgraded flight home cost $20k Australian. We only had to show we paid for our travels using the card, and the annual fee for the card was less than quotes we had for insurance, being retired I only applied for a low credit limit. Have a look around.

Hi, search Checkdi Thailand. They were known as Mr Prakan.. they do health insurance for in-bound visitors, you can select various lengths of cover and differing amounts of cover. I have used them several times but have never had to make a claim so can't comment on that side of things.

I had same issue. Zurich multi trip premier gives 60 days up to max 180 per year. But I’m only 61 so not sure if it would be same for 70

If healthy, no problem, anything minor, hospitals, clinics abound and very inexpensive.

Pharm is 90% cheaper than US.

Been here 21 years ,pay out of pocket, for all med and farm.

Broker will hit you with " but what if ".....take the odds.

Hi Bernie I’m an independent financial adviser from the uk and my advice is look around in the uk there will be some sort of short term insurance that will be better for you. There are very few Thai that will cover you due to your age and more importantly even if you do find one there is a clause in them from outset which is above how much time you’re here. So either use moneysupermarket.com back there or contact someone like swinton a broker and let them find one for you

Get travel insurance. Exclude the 3 expensive places from it. You only need for the time not covered.

I used Virgin insurance 90 day cover worldwide

Don't come without insurance...

why? There are millions and millions of people who can easily afford to self insure. Especially in Thailand. You don't think the world leading countries in medical tourism have all their patients arriving on insurance do you?

I'm with Barclays, and I upgrade my insurance with them. It's costs an extra £160
