Hi everyone. I have type 2 diabetes but I am on medication and have good control of my blood sugar. I am travelling to Thailand soon and is there an insurance policy that will cover my hospitalization cost for covid in the event of a positive result of covid test on arrival? I read the fine prints of some policies and they all state that you need to be "healthy" and have "no preexisting condition" to be eligible to make the claim. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about travel insurance policies for diabetics traveling to Thailand, particularly regarding coverage for COVID-19 hospitalization costs. Concerns are raised about insurance exclusions for pre-existing conditions. Community responses suggest consulting with insurance brokers for specific advice, and mention options like Sainsbury's Travel Insurance and Tune Insurance as potential resources.

Sorry I don’t know an actual answer for this but we have a few insurance brokers in here that may be able to advise. My guess is that they won’t cover for any pre existing conditions, so if you are positive on arrival and your symptoms mean you need hospital care (because of a pre existing condition) then they won’t cover you. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the industry can advise if there is a policy that would.

I might not have put it very clear in the original post that what I asked was whether the treatement of Covid will be covered. I made some editions to make that more clear.

The problem I would think may well be that the insurance companies may well take it that because of your diabetes, you need hospitalisation to treat the covid symptoms, rather than a person who doesn’t have diabetes, who may not. I’m certainly not an insurance expert, but my guess is that they’d use that as an excuse not to pay rather than to do so.
