TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the possibility of going to Hanoi, Vietnam, to apply for a visa instead of the usual trip to Cambodia. Comments include experiences with visa applications, advice to consider alternative locations like Vientiane, Laos, and warnings regarding entry restrictions back to Thailand. It highlights the need for proper documentation to avoid issues when applying for a visa.
Phnom penh is not good place to get the visa if you have a stamp or 2 in your passport. I know only 1 or 2 agent that can get you the visa there. This was 7 month ago
Make sure that you can return to Vietnam if they denied you entry to Thailand. Otherwise you'll be flying back to home.
You normally go to Cambodia to apply for a visa to be allowed to go home for max 90 days. Some Thai Consulates and Thai Immigration are checking your passport or the database for your history. If you live a longer time inside Thailand prepare a plan B or think about the correct visa.
