#touristvisa looking for some clarification on extending my 30 entry visa ,Recently visted the embassy in Pattaya to start the process was a little chaotic . This is my first time in thailand by the way. After being told we couldn't be in the building because i had shorts on and my girlfriend had a sleveless t shirt when we were directed in there to get our forms. The employee was doing there best but there had to be 100 people there some just as confused as i was. We decided to go buy some clothes so we could enter, we stopped at a private visa office and were told that if we applied for the extension that day the extension would start from the day we applied rather then the day it expires. But they could process it there. The price was double. My question. Do I need to wait to apply for an extension closer to the expiry date or can that be done at any time.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the correct timing for applying for an extension of their 30-day tourist visa in Thailand, expressing confusion after receiving conflicting information at the embassy. Comments clarify that typically, extensions are added to the current visa's validity, and the cost is generally 1,900 baht. However, for certain extensions, the date may start from the application date. It's advised to dress appropriately when visiting government offices.

Thank you, there were no forms outside as the worker kept running in to get them while another was directing people inside. Definitely some confusion between the 2 employees and many frustrated people as many had shorts on and were in the building ,well others were being told they couldn't when all they wanted were froms. Being new here making this information easier to find would have been helpful. As many were dressed the same .

You need to dress appropriately at government office same as wat /temple , show respect . Sure they had forms outside jomtiem office and photo copy stuff , it’s easy done but well hot in there , your extensions add on to end of your visa exemption , 1900 baht ,

Thank you, the lady at the private visa office was pretty convincing that we were to early in apply but she could get the extension to start from the date of expiration. Will have to give it a try in phuket. Hopefully not as busy and qith the proper clothing, ty

applying at Patong is significantly faster and they’re not as strict with clothing. Mainly because it’s a small office just off the beach lol. Don’t pay an agent… The process will take you approx 20 minutes at Patong. Make sure you have your TM30 from your hotel.

Many government offices require you to dress respectfully. Generally they’d allow shorts, but not “short shorts” if you know what I mean. When applying for the “normal” 30 day extension off a tourist visa or exempt entry it will be added on to your existing stamp. If applying for your first “Covid” extension (60 days) then they’ll probably date it from the day you apply. All extensions are 1,900 baht. No exceptions.
