Hey everyone,

My wife and I are traveling at the moment outside our home countries and would like to apply for the Non-B teaching visa (Russian national) and Non-O visas (South African) from Kuala Lumpur in August.

I have a couple of questions I hope could be answered here:

1. Do we need our original academic degrees or only certified copies would do? If we have a Bachelor’s and Master’s, but only have the original of Bachelor’s - can we avoid showing the Master’s?

2. How long does visa processing take in KL, Malaysia?

3. The criminal record check is issued by country of origin embassy in a third country - is this acceptable?

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Clint

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks guidance on applying for a Non-B teaching visa and Non-O visa from Kuala Lumpur for himself and his wife while traveling. Key concerns include the necessity of original academic degrees, the processing time for the visas, and the acceptability of a criminal record check issued from a third country's embassy. Responses emphasize the need for a job before applying for the visa, the importance of checking specific requirements on the KL visa website, and details about the appointment system for document submission and collection.

No idea. I would suggest mailing them and ask how long it now takes for a SA passport application.

You need 2 appointments for KL.

One to drop off the documents and then another once they contact you (you need a mobile phone) to say to collect the documents.

SA passport holders, if I remember, can be anything up to 4 weeks to be approved.

Thanks for the info. If the SA passport holder applies at the dependent of Non-B, can we expedite the process? In the case of 4 weeks, do you recommend buying a one-way ticket into KL?

Like Kool Breez said you need a job first before you can get visa and work permit.

You’ll have to look at the KL website for specifics for each visa type. They have a printable checklist of requirements that you must complete before they’ll even let you in the door.

KL require an appointment to apply for a visa and an appointment to collect your passport with the visa.

already booked an appointment date and I have my work documents in the email.

How’s the processing time?

The website will tell you. Generally it’s apply the morning on day one and collect the afternoon if day two. Working days.

Wow, that's a rapid turnaround. Thanks for the information :)

Not sure that would be the case for a Non B. It’s generally the case for a tourist or Non O but you’ll need to check with the website to confirm.

You first must have a teaching job. You can not first get a type B visa then go find a job. You need the job first.

I have the job lined up with all relevant documents in my email. Do I need the original documents from my employer?

your job should have given you a whole packet of documents to take with you when you go to the embassy/consulate.

Great, so these are the original documents in physical form right?
