Hi everyone.

My wife is currently in Thailand on an extension from a non-o visa, dependant on me. I have an extension from a non-b visa, i work here.

My wife just got a job offer and this company asked her to cancel her extension asap to get documents and apply for a non-b visa out of Thailand.

My question is, can she go and do the cancelation by herself at inmigration?

We live in Bangkok and go to Chaeng Watthana for all visa related things.

Thank you very much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether their wife can independently cancel her Non-O visa extension at the Chaeng Watthana immigration office in Bangkok to apply for a Non-B visa following a job offer. A comment suggests that she should visit Chaeng Watthana for specific cancellation documents and may need a supportive letter from her new employer.

Go to Chaengwattana to ask for detailed documents to cancel her extension. I think you may need some kind of letter (acknowledgment, etc) from your employer who supports her current Non-O dependent visa/extension if it's not at the end of her 1-year extension.

I believe she needs to leave Thailand once to proceed with her application with her new employer.

noted. Actually we are going directly to chaeng Watthana tomorrow to ask, however we wanted to know if someone has experienced the same case first hand. Hopefully the process of getting the visa extension canceled is not so difficult.

yes but in 2020 and during Covid so things might be different now.

My wife had same extension of stay as your wife and I was working and had extension of stay based on employment. My wife's future employer liaised with my employer at the time in order to get everything that was needed and ensured that my wife's extension of stay wasn't cancelled until they had all of the paperwork in place.

Note as travel overseas was very difficult in Q2/Q3 2020 this was all done within Thailand, including her getting herself sorted so she could work legally in Thailand.

She also has to talk with her new employer about how to enter Thailand. She may need to apply for her Non-B at the consulate outside Thailand. Or she may be able to apply for Non-B in-country after she enters Thailand on one of the visa-exempt, the visa-waiver, or Single Entry Tourist Visa. It depends on her new employer.

thank you very much. Her new employer asked her to get her current visa extension canceled and once it's done they will provide all documents to apply non-b visa outside Thailand.

You may want to cancel her extension several days in advance. i.e, for example, You can apply for her extension cancelation on Oct 7 effective on 17th October. in case you need a letter from your employer to cancel her extension, be careful with the date in the letter.
