TLDR : Answer Summary
Inquiring about affordable health insurance options for retirees in Thailand, several suggestions emerged from the community. Recommended companies include AXA, April Assistance, Thailife, Muangthai, AIA, Bangkok Insurance, Tabby Fin Infinity, and WRLife. However, members highlighted the importance of checking coverage details, particularly regarding deductibles and potential exclusions for travel outside Thailand. Most comments shared concerns over claims being denied by certain insurers, emphasizing the need to read policy fine print. Community members advised that insurance costs may increase with age, and a high deductible could lead to high out-of-pocket expenses.

I am with axa 2 mill coverage and I pay the first 200 k
Just an observation from a friend, so take it with a grain of salt, but he is on a retirement visa so he had to have the requisite coverage and got a policy for 36,000 THB per year. He had a slip and fall and broke his leg. Had to have 2 weeks in hospital, hip replacement surgery, and another week in rehab at the local hospital. Then he found out the deductible/excess on his policy was 1,000 000 baht and his costs were below that so it was entirely out-of-pocket. Read the fine print on any policy.
Be aware prices will rise as you age. Cigna almost tripled by premium after a birthday although I had never claimed. They said I had reached a higher risk pool!
Well, I have WRLife for 2,5 years now, and happy I never needed to claim. In the beginning read rather good stories even from a closer friend (needed a stent). Another friend got some spine cancer, but they did not pay. Lately alas, I read more and more negative stories. The premium is nice though, so fingers crossed that IF I need some payment (hopefully not for the next 10 years), they will pay.
everything they said about coverage and tha5 they take Alvarez if everything was bs, hospital evem told me when I said who I had policy with them that it will be difficult.. went one week at one hospital and never got a positive answer on converge so went to a government hospital for another week and was completely denied.. said everything was pre existing, which wasn't true at all....
I had to have an emergency surgery, they said it wasn't necessary, if I took their advise I would be dead
