Will my Non O visa remain valid with my old Italian passport if I renew it before my trip to Thailand?

Hello everyone,

I have another question. I requested my Non O visa with my Italian passport and the visa should arrive by the end of May however, I need to renew this passport because I realised that it expires on May 2025, so not enough time to get the year long extension. I will renew the IT passport in June, so after I get the visa.

Will the visa with my old passport be valid or will Thai immigration create problems for me? Obviously, I will take both passports with me to the airport.

I know that if you have a valid visa stamped into an expired passport, you can still use it as long as you take both passports with you but my doubt has arisen because the Thai visa comes in e-mail form and not stamped on the passport. It’s a silly detail, but any reassurance (or warning) from you would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day! It’s still 2 degrees here in the French Alps! Very unusual weather but, I guess it’s better than the 43 degrees in Thailand in April which was brutal. Either way, life is good.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice about the validity of their Non O visa, which is expected to be issued for their old Italian passport that will be renewed shortly after the visa is received. The concern is whether Thai immigration will accept the visa, which is in electronic form, if they travel with the old passport before the renewal. Community comments provide reassurances that the visa will likely remain valid, and suggest checking with the Thai Embassy for clarity.

Hello, Tullio is telling me that I might have a problem with immigration so I should check with the Thai Embassy before I depart. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are moving to Thailand you still have one year on your passport I suggest you use the existing passport to enter Thailand then you register with the Italian embassy as AIRE (it’s compulsory in any case) once you are registered you can renew the passport in the embassy, takes half an hour once you have the appointment, the embassy will issue a letter about the new passport for the immigration and you will get your extension of stay in the new passport. You can also get your extension of stay in the existing passport and once you have the new one immigration will transfer the stamp from one to the other as a free service, only downside of this is that they will not give you one year but only until validity of the passport.

The visa you will get will be electronic, not a stamp in the passport, so I honestly don’t know if it will be valid if the passport is then cancelled. There isn’t a clear answer on this anywhere.

Ciao

Sperem. Buona giornata! Hi Tullio, thank you for your reply. The thing is that my passport expires in May 2025 so I don't have a year and that is why I am renewing it before I leave otherwise I would have done as you said. I have already applied for the visa and the passport will be renewed in June.

You'll be fine, if your Non O is the 90 days single entry visa, it'll be 'used' and 'worthless' as soon as you're stamped into the Country anyways.
