How can I transfer my DTV sticker to a new passport number when renewing my passport in Thailand?

I am not speaking about competence of IO, but with only the info of name, birthdate and old passport number and a new passport with name birthdate and new passport number, nobody, not even a computer can tell the new passport is a replacement for the old passport.

Only when the persons has both passports together or by information from the passport issuer that tells it is a replacement of the passport with the old number this can be confirmed.

Stolen an missing passports normally invalidate the visa in it.

You can keep telling that there is no need to show the old passport, but the visa is only valid in combination with the old passport, which means an IO can insist you show the old passport.

Of course IO might accept when you just tell you got a new passort, bur in his data he cannot see the new passport is a replacement for the old passport, because that is only known by the passport issuer and that data is not shared online, so only when somebody makes a remark referencing in the new passport referencing to the old passport that connection is visible.

Please just explain how an IO could see the new passport is a replacement of the passport mentioned on the visa.

The fact that both passports belong to a person with same name and birthdate is not a guarantee that one replaces the other.

Only a reference made by passort issuer or a stamp made by immigration when having both passorts can connect the two passports, and even then strictly spoken the visa is only valid in combination with the old passport.

Of course personal details are on the visa, but one of those details is the OLD passport number, and as long as that number is not mentioned somewhere in the new passport number IO can not know the new passport is a replacement of the old one.

Visa are always issued on a passport, never just to a person.

A person can have more than one passport, but the visa is only for one specific passport.

Your remark that old passport is not necessary might get people in trouble.
