TLDR : Answer Summary
The community offers mixed advice on whether to book a flight to Thailand now or wait until closer to the departure date in November. Many recommend waiting to book until better information is available due to the ever-changing nature of flight availability and regulations, especially during the pandemic. Suggestions include booking a flexible ticket that allows for changes or cancellations. Others share their personal experiences regarding booking directly with airlines versus using agents, emphasizing the importance of refundable options.
KLM. Definitely stick to their word. 2 cancelled flights in 12 months and money back into account after 10 days. ( It does say in the T&C’s it takes up to 2 months but that's just to safeguard themselves)
Book a flight direct with an airline that allows changes or cancellations. Do not use an agent/aggregator. You might be able to save a few dollars via the latter but you’ll have a nightmare time trying to get your money back if things don’t go to plan.
you’ve got that right, I lost a grand in March 2019, just as the pandemic nightmare started. It was a co called cheap flights. I went direct in the past and will continue to do that in the future. They said I could use it within a year, of course that’s long gone.
I too was set to go in April 2020 lucky I booked directly with airline so got a voucher which expires 2021 but then they changed it to end of 2022. I tell everyone now it’s always better to book directly with the airline and just pay the extra $100.
This week my third booked flight (November) was cancelled. I'm still going to keep booking when I see a good deal, but making sure they are fully refundable or changeable 👍🏽
My advice wait until get really good news until approaching end of year, or if your airline company guarantee you refund, you know here in Thailand authorities are a bit versatile, news change every 2 days.
